after i did my RHD swap, the headlights and everything turned on just fine and the motors operated just fine. but now, for what seems to be no reason, only the "driving lights" work (tail, FTP, and side markers). so basically the headlights and healdight motors stopped working. at first they just started to dim out and then the motors started working slower and slower. then they just stopped working all together. also the blinkers stopped working. but the 4-way flashers work just fine.

i was thinking it was the switch since the 4-ways worked and the blinkers didnt. so i tryed using a spare USDM switch i had to see if thats was it. but after a few seconds, my US one started to smoke. like if i had wires crossed. but it dosnt do that to the JDM one. but still the FTP lights turn on along with the side markers and tail lights.

any ideas?

fuse? idk im lost on this but it could be when i blew my main fuse it was just harder and harder to start then finally no crank what so ever

Rob x-7 05-28-2009 06:03 AM

check the harness going to the switch

sen2two 05-28-2009 07:14 PM

i chedk the fuses and the harness leading to the switch. they both checked out OK.

could the switch go out partially? or does everything that switch controls stop working...?

RicerJ 05-29-2009 03:08 AM

there isnt much on that switch if im thinking right its just headlights and defroster

sen2two 05-29-2009 03:32 AM

also the dim/brightness for the dash. and thats dosnt work either. at first if i clicked it off and on a few times the dahs would turn on also. but no more...

the wierd part is, the blinker switch dosnt work either. but the 4 way flashers do... wich is essentially the same thing but on the other side of the cluster.

so im still thinking its the switch. but where the hell would i find a RHD switch to do a check! the LHD one has the same plugs, but like i said. when i plugged it in. it started to smoke!

RicerJ 05-29-2009 04:17 AM

bad relay in the switch they both come apart pretty well with a little "love" from a flat head screw driver

sen2two 05-30-2009 02:43 PM

is there a way to test the switch? without taking it apart?

oh, and i put direct power from the battery to the headlights with a spare wire and they light up just fine. but when i give direct power to the headlight motor plug, i hear something like a relay clicking around the headlight area. but it does nothing. is there a relay by there that could have work down and went bad?

RicerJ 05-31-2009 12:47 AM

hmmm bad motor? or maybe bad connection between something i cant make heads or tails of a electrical diagram sorry

sen2two 06-16-2009 07:32 PM

since my blinkers went out at the same time (but the 4 ways still work) i checked that little black box that makes it all blink. i hear the clicking noise coming from it. so it not the switch and its after the black box.

i would think its not the motors since im betting this is all tied in together (headlights, blinkers, motors). im thinking a relay. what or where is the relay that controlls these? is it one of the relays behind the radiator?

i dont know a ton about the headlight system, as they dont fail much...

the s4 and s5 headlight switches are DIFFERENT. they will plug in, and fry though...

also mazda had a ground problem at the switch, which melts that little subharness (and the switch)

i have pulled the switches apart and repaired them, its not hard at all, unless you're on the rx7club

i think teknaks also had a good thread about the headlight system

sen2two 06-19-2009 03:07 PM

im pretty sure its not the switches though...

it has to be something between the little black box that controlls the blinking action and the headlights/blinkers themselfs...i just dont knwo what. im about to hook up a few toggle switches for each thing and call it a day...

the blinkers are done in the CPU in a us car its by the drivers right foot.

dunno about the headlight, i'd have to look at the wiring diagram. off the top though i think its the switch to the relays on the headlight motors

baldeagle432 06-25-2009 08:50 PM

why did u break it

sen2two 06-25-2009 08:51 PM

break what?

sen2two 06-29-2009 04:44 AM

ok, fixed it.

started checking all the relays by the front bumper cause i know one of them controls the headlights. just didnt know wich one. they were all good, so i knew it had to be something real stupid if everything i check works fine.

so i feel under the main fuse box, (the one on the LH strut tower) and they are plugged in but not quite plugged all the way. push them in further. and all the freakin lights work fine again! just a loose connection! damn it! lol...

RicerJ 06-29-2009 05:31 AM

well i bet next time that happens you will check there first lol did it click when you pushed it in more? or did it just slide in? dunno maybe the clip thing is busted since you know old plastic doesnt like to come apart or be screwed with
