So my headlights stay up .. They don't retrtact.. how do I troubleshoot this situation.? Also only my high beams stay on..? maybe they fugged up the wiring.. but none of it looks tampered with.. or could it be the switch?

j9fd3s 04-14-2003 06:16 PM

it could be the switch, but there is a fuse for the retractors in the under hood fuse box

Rob x-7 04-14-2003 07:34 PM

did you see if they are plugged in?

Follow the wiring harness from the retractor motors, it

goes thru a hole in the radiator support, see if they are both

plugged in, remember its different wiring for the lights and for the

retractors.

Apex13B 04-14-2003 07:54 PM

there it little switch on the dash that keeps them up https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/bigok.gif

Seppuku 04-14-2003 07:58 PM

yeah its above the light switch

ROTARYROCKET7 04-15-2003 02:15 AM

you can take out the fuse and the headlights stay down and when u turn onthe lights it will come out the flash to pass and they lloook kool. Hey does anyone know if those conversion kits for teh sealed beam headlights H6054 are any good. Those are the ones that you can switch to H7 light bulbs i think. Do they improve vision or is it another ricer gimmick?

Shane.Trammell 04-15-2003 10:02 AM

ahh i never thought of removing the retractor fuse and running with the lights on, this is gonna look tight

75 Repu 04-15-2003 10:09 AM

Yeah they are plugged in.. I will have to use the light tester to see if the wires are getting power I guess then I will narrow it down to either the switch or the motors.. But why do the high beams stay on?

Rx7Roadster 04-15-2003 10:24 AM

I dont think that you would get any light out of the FTPs. They arent very big so you light pattern must suck. Can you even see anything?

Nope. Don't use this to light your way unless you'll be driving in a well lit city all night, and then, you have to worry about getting pulled over.

Shane.Trammell 04-15-2003 10:41 AM

aww yes i will do this soon. would you get a ticket for it even though your lights are on?

UniqueTII 04-15-2003 10:42 AM

Some cops are pretty picky about lighting...I didn't get pulled over the one time I did it at night, but it could happen.

Shane.Trammell 04-15-2003 10:43 AM

i wouldnt do it at night anyways, hitting stuff isnt that cool once youve already done it once

i would look at the switch, its pretty easy to figure out, cause it tends to melt

My headlight motors use to work, but than one would flip up and down non-stop. I never figured out what was wrong with it. SO... I put my headlights in sleepyeye mode (half up) At first i did not like the style

But than i got my Turbo Wing. than i lowerd the car she looks good. The lighting from being half up is sufficiant... But than again i also have PIAA Fog lamps. (VERY NICE) Spent 300 bucks on the damn things

Eventually i will figure out what is wrong with my headlight motors. Or i could buy an RE amenyia Flush headlight kit. (ALSO NICE) Thats my 7 Cent's

75 Repu. Check the Large relays for the motors. sometimes they get wet and burn out. (just a thought)

75 Repu 04-15-2003 11:48 AM

cool I will try all those things.. ONe question though.. are all 86-91 headlight switches compatible? what about the wiper switches.. I find lots of 86-88 cars at the Junkyard.. but hardly ever find any S5s..

Shane.Trammell 04-15-2003 11:50 AM

most parts are interchangebable, i think these 2 things are the same.

a little https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...1047683621.gif , but if you need a wiper switch, I got 2 (I think by mistake) from a guy. I have yet to test them. If you're interested, I can test both. One has a rear wiper knob, but I didn't think that'd matter.

Once upon a time I was working late, late in the garage and the car made a freakin-scary noise: the stuck headlight went down on its own.

It seems the motor gets a little corroded or crudded up and sticks or can't make a proper connection internally. Try turning the lowering knobs under the car and they may suddenly start to move again--be warned that it feels really freaky when they suddenly come alive in your hand. (Pull off the boots first.)

I sprayed mine with something, but I can't remember what. Might have been silicone. But I found graphite lube in a spray can and that would be much better, just let it air out first. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...1047683473.gif

75 Repu 04-17-2003 06:54 PM

ok.. I fixed it again.. I went to the wrecking yard.. There was a Repu there.. but no parts that I needed, and most of the good to have extras were gone.. ok anyway.. I got a couple of switches.. One of them worked so I am good to go with that.. now they go up and down when I want.. The only problem I have now is that the highbeams stay on... could this be the cluster switch...?

75 Repu 04-17-2003 06:56 PM

If it is the cluster switch, then I guess I have to get it from an S5 or which ever year has the switch on the column..

Shane.Trammell 04-17-2003 07:06 PM

i took out that fuse. it looks really cool, especially during the day if the ftps are in. at night the beams suck if the ftps are in so i am gonna leave them out, they were already out anyways. didnt hurt visibility that much, and i dont know why cops would care

75 Repu 04-17-2003 07:10 PM

Cool.. I gotta try that.. Besides I always have the fog lights incase the cops wanna get picky..
