I will go ahead and say that I am sure this question gets butchered to death but...I am going to go ahead and ask it. Is there any way to control how far open the headlights come up? Reason I ask is because I am working on a mod for my 88. Some of you may love the idea, others I am sure will not which is fine. I plan on doing a write-up of this mod and post it here should everything come out the way I plan. But, for right now before I can even begin the process I need to know how I can open the headlight so that the top 3 1/4 or so of the lens (not the plastic surround, the actual glass lens of the stock headlight) is visible. Basically I want them to be sleepy eyes but I will not be using the stock lamp. Just the retractable assembly. I am sure something similar has been done. In fact, I believe I have even seen it somewhere before but like anyone else, I want my "own" version of it.



I promise if I get this mod just right pics/write-up/process will be documented and shared. Also on a side note, does this thing actually work? any feedback would be great, thanks!

If you want this to be done correctly, you will have to do some linkage modification.



Be it either the headlight motor arm, or the linkage to the light assembly, that's what you will have to do.



It's basic levers.





Essentially, depending on where components connect together, you can have more, or less travel. The pictures might not have the same result in real life as shown, but it's just to give you an idea.



All you have to keep in mind is that when the headlight motor is "stroked" (meaning fully extended), you want the headlight to be at it's stock height minus 3 1/4" (right?). So you would disconnect the headlight assembly from the motor, and flip the headlights up so the motor is stroked, set the headlight where you want it, and scheme how to make the linkage meet up at that particular point. Just becareful that the linkage will pivot correctly and not buckle in the wrong direction. Take your time and do it properly.
