I was driving home, and it began idleing at 2200 rpm, rough, and didn't sound right. What could be my problem. Do you think my timing is off?
Thanks in advance. |
I think retarded timing causes the exhaust to get really hot.
Attach a timing light to the trailing coil (I think the first, or front rotor) and point it at the eccentric shaft pulley. You should see a yellow mark on it that should be lined up with a pin coming out of the cover. If not, loosen the e-shaft position sensor and rotate it (while watching the mark) until the mark lines up with the pin. These are directions for a second gen, I'm not absolutely sure it works quite the same on a first. |
actually, it might be running rich too. Do first gens have a distributer? It's carb right? Maybe it's just running rich, that could be the cause also.

What do you have after the header, any cats or mufflers that could've suddenly broken up and clogged?
|
You have the 86 13B in your 79 right?
I had this problem with a motor I just pulled out to replace, headers glowing red hot because of it being soo damn rich. There were alot of things wrong with the motor i just pulled a few were just clogged EGR valve, which probably wouldn't do too much and after a while the motor just died. I'm not to sure about this either. This was my friends so I wasn't the dumbass who tried to drive it with glowing headers and whatnot. Oh and this was after a new exhaust was put on, but it was still stock, so I have no idea. I just know it was way rich. |

Yes it is a 86 engine ecu, and fuel injection in a 79, after the header is 2 1/2" straight pipe, it's either timing or air/fuel ratio right????
|
ok yeah its probably running pig rich, you can tell when the timing is off with straight pipes, so you would know. Do you have the stock 13b fuel system on it?

looks like the timing is retarded, but It was idleing at 1500 rpm? I'll get the Rotary Doctor to fix it as soon as it stops snowing
