i was told that the width of the stock unit is odd compared to aftermarket head units..is this true? if so what do i need to do to get a after market unit of average size to fit properly?
well if you break the little plastic surround thingy then you will have extra room around it and just have a professional install the head unit but watch them very carefully, they should have all of the covers and such.
no, its not weird my dad was the manager of the roadshop the car audio portion of circuit city for 12 years hehe and he did my install and didnt mention it being weird. its just a normal single din head unit =D
width isnt a problem unless you had the little amp thing like the verts had, then its a bit wider
its only single din if you leave the eq or the tape deck or something.
depending on the sound system your car came with it may be single din or double din.. i installed one on the vert a while back.. nothing odd about it.. i got rid of it later though cuz the way the radio didnt seem to fit in with the rest of the dash bothered the hell out of me..
well they sell double din head units with some cool **** for the extra room it takes up , mine is single din =D
i got that metal thing and its great. its f/s too if you wanan buyi t. 2 pods.
i know its double din.. i just didnt know if it was too wide or something odd like that.. but thanks for your help guys... dramon.. what are you talkin bout?
i bought my sony xplod head unit and it fit right in
its an aluminum cd player holder with 3 52mm gauge spots underneath it.
where could i get one like that? and do they make one with a switch panel under it?
I don't know about that w/ the switchpanel.
The only real odd thing about these headunits, isn't the WIDTH. If you have a double- or triple-din headunit, it's being held in by this cage. The units screw to that, and that to the console. My 86 GXL has a triple-din: Radio, Tape Deck, and EQ. All three are the same width, but when I went to change out head units... I noticed the CAGE doesn't screw on to every aftermarker headunit. The holes that are set up for the stock headunit are in a different place then the holes on the aftermarket deck. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...1047683664.gif Dammimt, Beavis. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...#>/BURNOUT.gif |

The only thing I noticed is that there is not much extra depth for the wiring.
I needed most or the bottom bay for wiring space. |
