Alright guys,

Here's the situation, I bought the car with the head lights stuck up, I figured it was an easy fix apparently not! https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/blink.png

So, anywho, me and the pops broke out the volt meter, come to find out the lights are getting a constant voltage to the two pins that make it go up, however, even with the switch off it's still getting full voltage, I've tried about 5 different head light switches.

Now, we took the connector off and with a few pair of clips with light gauge wire we jumped the motor off and it made the lights go up and down just fine.

Even if I turn the knob manually they still go up as soon as they start to go down. Right now, I blew the fuse in the EGI installing my SAFCII so I swapped the two fuses around until I figure out what's going on.

Sounds like the headlight relay may be tits up.

Tech_Greek 09-29-2005 12:42 AM

I hear about the head light relay, but between my self and my dad the only relay we could find in the wiring diagrams was actually in the head light motors, the relays up front I manually clicked and everything worked as it should, but I couldn't find one for Head Lights?

My bad, if the headlight buckets are getting voltage in the up position, it is a grounding issue or a malfunction in the motor itself, so long as the main fuse isn't burned out.

Tech_Greek 09-29-2005 12:51 AM

You see, that's what I thought but I thought, why would BOTH motors be malfunctioning like that?

If it is the ground, where is the connection for the ground? Should I just go around finding grounding points and shave any gunk in the hole it's grounded out in and re-do the connections?

So I assume the retractor fuse isn't blown and the cluster switch didn't fix it either, all that is left is the retractor motor or wiring issues, i.e grounding. There are two immediate points of grounding in the engine bay, one; near the bottom of the frame rail on the strut tower, driver side. second; both headlight bucket wiring should have a stray spot to ground to the chassis there is also one for the fuel pump resistor relay, located behind the passenger side headlight bucket, but that ground is only for the resistor.

It wouldn't hurt to buy a grounding kit for your car anyway, they are pretty cheap on e-bay, 10 bucks or so, and can prevent some hesistation issues that might develop later on, specifically if you start modifying the car a whole lot

Alright, I was thinking about getting one so I guess I will then.

As for the grounds for the head light strays, is there any particular way to clean them up?

just get it to bare metal, maybe usings steel wool, a metal bristle brush, a file etc. Normally i only scratch away enough paint as i need, cause all the extra stuff stays exposed and possibly rusts. Also be sure to give the connector a good cleaning maybe with emery paper (sand paper basically)

Alright,

I've got the car apart, I've got it to the point where the lights wont go back up until I plug the light switch back in, HOWEVER, before they would stay up no matter what!

So this is progress, but didnt fix it, I get a ground from two wires and a 12V from one wire (white/green I believe) which is right from what I can tell the damned relay wont click over to make them go down so needless to say I'm fustrated!
