i recently bought a 3rd gen for street race use ( target high 10's ) which will put me directly where i want to be in my city. id like to get into actual racing, on a strip and i know SOME about the 2nd gen rx7s. i want a light car that stays within the relms of the rotary and the looks of a new car. i believe the second gen will fall into those for me with some modifications. my question is how fast can they possibly go? FULLY modded out. no iterior or anything, and how much would i be looking to pay for one?

well, to buy one, you could be looking about $5000 tops, but most of the time you can get a much better deal, i.e. vosko paid $500 for his, as far as potential, Soul Assassin was running 10s with his TII, however, he was also in Japan, the land of cheap car parts, he did however have a full interior I believe though, not to sure, he lurks here sometimes, send him a pm or something to see what all he had done, and the cost. I remember seeing his dyno chart putting somewhere around 600 hp on a bridgeported turbo motor.

is the second easier to work on than the 3rd? ive found when tearing apart mine, its a pain in the ass. and is the second the best car to get for race?

yeah, ive heard the 3rd gen is quite a bitch to work on when stock. (jack the car to even change spark plugs). 2nd gens are fairly cheap. i would recommend picking up a TII and just doing some simple mods to it and see how u like it. i had a dp, exhaust, no cats, intake, FCD, fuel system and some extras and i was pretty happy with it. was able to take on a lot of cars on the street, but not all

The TII is by far much easier to work on than the FD, especially if you have the goal of stripping it. Toss the PS, AC, ABS, the air pump, ACV, BAC, EGR and it basically gives you FEET of space in the engine bay to work with, or, cram a huge snail and plenty of matching IC piping in :bigthumg: .

What racing would you be doing with the car, and how would you want it to look "like a new car"? Through body styling updates or just freshen the factory appearance?

papasmurf 09-23-2002 10:54 PM

drag only. i dont want it street drivable and it will be trailored only. ill probablly freshen up the outside with one or two upgrades ( lighter wheels and non pop up lights ). i want to get it painted a rather odd color. matte black, so it LOOKS clean all the time, but not glossy, and if it so happens that some or all of the rear tire gets on it, itll look clean as hell https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...#>/biggrin.png . will a 20b fit under the hood? or a sick ported 13b from an fd?

Geoffman72 09-23-2002 11:26 PM

20b only requires new mounts in the FC https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...#>/biggrin.png

What speeds do you want to run with it?

edit - 20b only requires new mounts to FIT in an FC I meant to say https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...DIR#>/wink.png

im willing to build the car to be one of the fastest 2nd gens out today. money isnt a HUGE object. if a 13b is more economical and i can still run mid 9's or low 9's ill be happy. if the car is NOT capable of it then i have to find another way of it going that fast. i know my 3rd gen can go into the 9's and still be considered 'streetable', so i figure the 2nd can go faster and not be street driven.

my buddy has a turboII that's been street ported, 3" exhaust, custom air filter setup, fuel cut defense, blow off valve, and no b/s under the hood but the full interior only boosting 14lbs. It runs low 11's
