I was wondering if any one had set up a system for using pre-bottled compressed air going into the throttle body in controled bursts? kinda like a blower but with out the electric fan.

1Revvin7 04-12-2005 12:05 AM

I have never heard of that, but I would imagine you would need a rather large bottle under exremely high pressures to make a difference...

elitt89na 04-12-2005 12:09 AM

80 cubic inch 3000 psi scuba tank.

boost_creep 04-12-2005 01:29 AM

You try it....................... https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...R#>/unsure.png

venomrx7 04-12-2005 06:19 PM

it would require a lot of research and testing. you would have to find a way to make a button activated valve that can handle the pressure, and the jets that let the air into the throttle body would have to be sized just right to keep from blowing the engine, or just not doing anything

you would also have to find a way to keep the air from just blowing back out through the air filter.

I don't think its worth trying, but they probably told henry ford that when he started making model t's, so whatever you have the time and money to try....

GreyGT-C 04-12-2005 07:00 PM

i think it would become more of a volume issue , than a timing or jetting issue.

Il RX8 lI 04-12-2005 08:03 PM

Wouldn't that be an assload of extra weight too? I think that would really throw off the benefits.

mazdarx713b 04-12-2005 08:11 PM

i think it can be done, i used to be a paintballer and an 68ci 3000psi tank wasnt that much filled at most maybe 3-4 pounds. i think the hole setup would be the hardest.

Yeah, but how much benefit would a car really see with that? Even though I'm not much of a fan, if I wanted bottle-aided power, I'd go with nitrous.

Forcing a crapload of air into a VDI manifold?

I'm this this guy...

If it's of any value, the compressed air idea was tried on a drag rail that is presently housed in Don Garlits' Drag Museum. The front portion of the rail contained the large air tank and pipes fed the charge to the intake of the rear mounted engine. Apparently there was a great deal of experimentation that never produced reasonable results. Hope this provides some insight.

I experminted with the idea on a mud truck of mine a couple years ago using a air compressor for air bags and a blow gun nozzle for you shop and after alot of expermenting and money the whole system was a bust. My truck had a carb and not FI but it may be worth a try I think the key would be feeding more fuel in relation to the amount of air put in to the intake. I rejeted my carb and ran it increadbly rich and found more power cam from the cam and trying to force uncontroled air was way to much of a hassle. If you can do it my hat is off to you.

I would use a air compressor and tank from a airbag set up to help regulate the amount and consistency of the air

Turbo=smaller, lighter, much more powerful version.

Strap the bottle to the top of the car like a rocket for one BIG controled burst. I bet it would be just as effective. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...1047683473.gif https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...>/rolleyes.gif

I like it!

And everybody knows if you blow up a balloon, and then let it go, the air whooshes out the end and it goes like crazy!

It's bound to be the next big thing!

I can see it now.... Honda Civics everywhere with inflated balloons strapped to their roofs. And they're mad quik, yo! https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...#>/BURNOUT.gif

jackboots 04-14-2005 02:12 PM

Hahaha....my dad used to fab up little cars out of sheet metal and strap freon bottles inside of them. he'd pound a little nail in the backside, tie a string to the nail...pull the string and *FWOOOOOOOSHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!* Ultra fast rocket car.

*this was before the days of OZONE DEPLETION and what not....you shouldn't replicate this stunt at home.

majeskyb 04-14-2005 09:09 PM

what if you got some pure oxygen? What percent of nitrous is oxygen? Something like 40%? Pure O2 would have an even better effect on the car (and even more dangerous=more fun)

Cheers! 04-14-2005 09:25 PM

I think you have a better chance getting a two stroke lawnmower engine to prespin your turbo charger than you do using compressed air to spin it up

Actually, it wouldnt.

N02 works because the oxygen is the fuel, and the nitrogen is what expands, driving the pistons or rotors.

If you have pure oxygen you will just burn super hot and there will be no air to expand.

I just ordered my bottles and setup from Acme a few hours ago. I'll keep you guys updated.

lawn mowers are 4 stroke. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...#>/biggrin.png

chain saws, brush cutters, hedge trimmers, etc... are (mostly) 2 stroke.

nopistons94 04-14-2005 10:31 PM

why not just buy a nitrous kit ? Its prob cheaper to just buy a kit than trying to make this work
