Ok, here's a quick questions. Right now i have Standard Rx-7 GXL 15x6 rims on my mazda

I have 225 50 on the rear... and...

205_60 on the front. it looks a little odd, and i think it's screwing up my handleing...

Should i have (if they make them) 225_60 Rear and 205_50 in front...

cause right now my rear tires are (wider) but about an inch shorter (side wall)

and it really looks funny. should i have it the other way around??

I'm just asking.. cause some redneck ass backwards mechanic put my tires on..

j9fd3s 03-23-2003 08:50 PM

the stock size is 205-50-16 all the way around

well, i have a GXL... 15 inch rims. i wish i had turbo rims. anyways

Should i just stick to running the same on all four corners? weather it be 205-60-15..... or 225-50-15

??should i have same on all fours?? or try to put slightly larger (wider) tires on the rear.

my_jdm_rx7 03-24-2003 10:57 AM

225/50 is too wide for a 6inch wide rim..even 6.5inch. The reason the car isnt handling well is because the tire is TOO wide for the rim. If you want to have a shorter sidewall and same width, go with 205/55. When you put a tire on a wheel that is too wide for it, it will roll, and flex.

relisys190 03-24-2003 11:37 AM

hummm... strange... so basically, i should just stick with 205-60 15 all the way around...

or like you said 205-55-15. do they make a 205-50?

FCmaniac 03-24-2003 12:01 PM

yeah, the stock size for the GXL rim is 205-60-15... You could probably get away with 215's but with the rim being 6.5", you might as well stick with the 205's... anyway, the tread compound is more important than the size. You could have some T rated POS 235 big dogs out back that won't grip nearly as good as a Z rated 205 for a basic example.....

relisys190 03-24-2003 12:25 PM

The rim is only 6.5"? https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/blink.png

Damn.. i always thought it was only 6. ok how about this

Get some turbo rims (89'+) (ahhh BBS) and put some 215-50-16 on all fours

Or stick with 15... and lower it about 2 inches.. Damn i'm so confused https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/wacko.png

my_jdm_rx7 03-24-2003 02:30 PM

relisys190 03-27-2003 06:23 PM

i just purchased some new tires today.. spent 325 all together for tires on all fours

i put 225-50 15s on all fours. I was going to wait till i got rims... because i couldnt decide to get 16's or not

but i have decided to stick with 15 inch rims.. and just lower my baby about 2 inches. should look (and handle real good)

my_jdm_rx7 03-27-2003 11:17 PM

you put 225/50 on a 6inch wide rim??? You just threw your GOOD handling in the *******

trash....its too wide...the sidewalls will buldge out, and roll when the car is thrown into a

corner. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub..._DIR#>/sad.png

relisys190 03-28-2003 12:26 AM

dude, are you kidding me?

relisys190 03-28-2003 12:26 AM

****.. dude i just waisted a whole crap load of money on those tires...

should i have stuck with 205-60?

Jerk_Racer 03-28-2003 03:19 AM

Yes, you should have. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub..._DIR#>/dry.png Just use what you got and wait until they wear out. In the mean time, score some T2 wheels. 205/55/16 is perfect for them. I wanted wider tires so I went with wider wheels on my FC. I found some 16x8 wheels for a good deal and went with 225/50 for them.

All because it is physically possible to place that wide of tires on a rim does not mean that it's ideal. Some people like to believe that all because it seems as though there is a wider contact patch they'll get better performance. But other factors come into play. One is tire pressure. Too narrow of a tire for a wheel and you have to add more pressure to flatten the tread. Too wide of a tire for a wheel and you have to lower pressure to flatten the tread. You went with too wide of a tire. With this lessened pressure your tire will need to rely on sidewall strength to cover both lateral forces and to carry the weight of the vehicle. I could go on and on with this, but suffice to say you need wider wheels to attain your goals of using wider tires. Lucky you, the FC can accept some decent sized rubber in its wheel wells.

relisys190 03-28-2003 09:19 AM

damn. maybe i can return them? they only have 20 miles or so on them

i'll just stay they rubbing.. and they arnt fitting properly... and tell them i would like 205 60 instead.

relisys190 03-28-2003 09:24 AM

i really dont want taller rims... i would like to stick with 15's. So what if i go find some 15x 7 inch rims

would than i be able to use the tires i have to full potential?

I just didnt want to have to waist the 300 bucks i just spent...

reason i want to stick with the 15's is because i would like to lower the car about 2 inches or so...

and 15 inch rims are usually lighter
