Finally figured out why my steering was inconsistent.

When I was changing my oil yesterday, I noticed a red

fluid all over the bottom of the engine bay. That fluid

was power steering fluid, and I am pretty sure it is the

cause of my steering problems. But my mechanic friend

thinks that my rack might be wrecked as well.

Have any of you guys ever had leaking power steering fluid?

Or ever replaced a rack, and how much did it cost?

uh my power steering problem at the moment is in the cooling line... the lines on my car are all rusted to **** and prob. just rusted right the hell through. um i'm actualy getting hooked up from a nice guy that is willing enough to give me lines for pretty damn cheap

serpent12 06-10-2003 07:45 AM

What are the cooling lines?

Any pics?

Cooling line run parrallel to the Oil cooler support behind the bumper

MazdaEnthused 06-10-2003 11:21 AM

yea in front of the radiator if you take that airdamn off the bottom you can see it running in front of the radiator it runs from the pasenger side and loops back to where ever it comes from

Mine had the power steering leak too, it was in the cooling line that the other guys are talking about. This line runs infront of the oil cooler, when you open the hood its at the very front and is a looped tubing. Fortunatly i found a used one and from under the car replaced it without removing anything. Check here first, the mechanics said my rack was gone, F$%#@ them $10, half an hour, two years later my rack is still perfect!

MazdaEnthused 06-10-2003 11:33 PM

yeap so wait how can fix this leak without taking anything off?

pengaru 06-13-2003 08:00 PM

when the power steering goes south I just ditch it, plug the lines and loop the two on the rack.

MazdaEnthused 06-14-2003 04:36 PM

yea me and my father took a good look at those lines and they are in the tightest stupidest spots to try but we did manage to get the cooling lines apart we just gotta get it out of there so i might just replace the lines if i can. cause i can't STAND cars with no power steering because this stupid fiero i have... its all i can do to get it to turn out of my drive way

pengaru 06-14-2003 04:38 PM

hahah, and the fiero has relatively little weight over the front wheels, you need to do some manual labour and grow bigger muslces https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...#>/biggrin.png
