to start, i'm new to the forums & the world of rotaries...so, "Hi" https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...#>/biggrin.png

Moving on, I am looking to buy a 1987 Turbo II here in Denton, TX from a guy who obviously doesn't know what he has.

It is white with a few minor dings on the outside, nothing major. The interior is FLAWLESS. Everything looks showroom fresh except a little dog hair. I mean no fading, cracks, nothing.

Next is the kicker.....59,900 original miles on the odometer.

I'm buying it from him for $4200.

I know that price sounds low, which makes me a little worried...did he roll back the odometer? is there something he's hiding?

Or does he just need to sell the car and doesn't know what he has?

Any thoughts? suggestions? opinions? short essays? Haikus? anybody?

Thanks,

Taylor

joe2dmax 01-29-2004 02:30 PM

the only way he can do that is if he pulled out the speedo cable (which stops the odometer and the reading for your mph).

if it really is that clean, then maybe it is original miles. how is the engine bay? any oil leaks?

rotorheads, what do you guys think about the price?

madeinnuyawk 01-29-2004 02:34 PM

first of all.. there is a way to return the odometer to any mileage u want.. ive seen it done lots of times when people rebuild their engines for personal reasons...

second of all, the price sounds a little high... but it is good if u say the car is intact.. the only next worry is the condition of the engine and drivetrain

jackboots 01-29-2004 02:46 PM

well...the engine bay is clean as far as I could tell.

There's a short shifter of unknown origin that is super tight, but enjoyable. it has clean shifts.

I forgot to mention....the owner previous to this guy installed a Blitz Turbo timer and blow off valve and an APEX'i N1 exhaust.

The clutch is brand new.

rmaiersg 01-29-2004 05:07 PM

Sounds like a deal to me. Any running TII with no rust and that mileage is worth it. It sounds like the car is tip top.

86se7en 01-29-2004 05:08 PM

just run a carfax on it to see if everything checks out... and i think it is a pretty good deal.

turborotor 01-29-2004 05:12 PM

I would do a compression test first before offering. Any mods or all stock??

Rob x-7 01-29-2004 06:03 PM

the price is strong, he he is probably getting the better end

of the deal.

rmaiersg 01-29-2004 06:53 PM

I've realized that carfax is a waste of money 95% of the time. The cars you don't want are the ones that we're fixed half assed and not reported to the insurance that does not show up on carfax.

rowtareh 01-29-2004 07:22 PM

Do a compression test just to be safe. If that clears out, then get it. If I had the money, I would get it.

Good luck and welcome to the world of rotaries. Lotta fun to drive. I just got one, and it is still sitting. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/angry.png

jackboots 01-29-2004 10:48 PM

Carfax checks out, and so does the milage.

ive talked him down to 3800.....and i'm getting it tomorrow https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...#>/biggrin.png

I'm glad to be part of the club!!!!!

Seeing as how people have spoken, and you ARE getting a good deal, I'm going to ***** this post now.... https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...#>/biggrin.png This guy is selling a 10th Anniversary Edition TII with a blown motor to me for 1000 bucks, is THAT a good deal or what? Interior: 8/10 Exterior 6/10. It has some chipping/fading (solved with my friend's paint shop). It's gonna cost me another 500 just to ship it to me, and as an incentive on getting the title "cleaned up", I threw another 2 c-notes on it, putting me at 1700 for a near-mint 10 AE... I already have an engine lined up, so whaddya guys think eh? https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...DIR#>/wink.png

If you can't wait, fine, if you can wait, wait.

jackboots 01-30-2004 08:09 PM

I got the car today!!!!

I giggled like a school girl at every streetlight.....its got this short shifter on it...and the shifts ARE short....its just way harder to use than any othr SS ive used...anyone else had this?

im also getting that 3800 rpm hesitation, but my car came with a Mazda Factory Workshop Manual...so i'll find that injector ground.

One other thing, it has the Blitz Super Sound BOV installed, but it's Super Mute, because I can't hear nothin' betwixt my shifts....Ideas?

Other than that, I LOVE this car!!!!!!

1988RedT2 01-30-2004 08:15 PM

Sounds to me like you got a nice car at a fair price. Enjoy! https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...#>/biggrin.png

So, TII's are known though, apparently from what I've heard, for having:

-Bad fuel pump wiring.

-Bad seat-belt thingies

-Bad boost gauge

-Bad BOV TOA MRCVCAD's (with the ECU EFI LOL..)

-Only coming in the color white.

Am I right?

MazdaMike 01-30-2004 11:37 PM

sounds pretty good good luck welcome to the club

mg38024 01-30-2004 11:45 PM

1971ChevelleSSV8 makes some valid points. He forgot about the fuel injectors though.

shutup, you obviously know nothing.

stop trying to blow this guys bubble.

turbo's come in many colors, with many different problems. 16 year old cars come with many problems, no surprise. dont just spout off a bunch of random problems you have heard from friends/interent/ricers/whatever as typical of rx-7's.

YOU GOT A SWEET DEAL, AND DONT LISTEN TO WHAT OTHER PEOPLE SAY. DO YOU ENJOY IT, AND ARE YOU HAPPY? THAT'S WHAT MATTERS.

mg38024 01-30-2004 11:49 PM

RX7Aggie makes some valid points too. Right on.

RX7Aggie 01-30-2004 11:50 PM

i paid $3000 for mine with a blown engine, but it had s5 lights, 17" konig rims, white with maroon interior. it was what i wanted, and i love it now. sure it cost a decent amount to get it running well, but now it's one of the fastest, best looking cars in town.

ENJOY YOUR NEW CAR. TREAT IT AS A LONG TERM RELATIONSHIP, DO WHATEVER MODS YOU WANT, MAKE IT YOUR BABY. SAVE IT FOREVER, BE CAUTIOUS WITH YOUR MODS, AND DONT BUY CHEEP STUFF.

white?

HA

FCmaniac 01-31-2004 05:43 AM

Congrats! There's nothing like the feeling of driving a car that you just bought and is all new to you.

You're in the right place... don't listen to anyone except me, especially Aggie. Anyone who pays $3K for a T2 with a blown engine is insane https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...#>/biggrin.png

Now now, I'm just kidding, and I think that was pretty obvious, I really wasn't trying to blow that guy's bubble.

I may know nothing about RX-7's, but I have seen my car down to [literally] the last bolt, so I do know things in general.

I wish I could agree with your statement of '16 year old cars come with many problems', but mine is 33 years old, and I can't say ''71 Chevelles are known for having this problem...' Granted, my car doesn't have any computers, etc.

Dramon has had 2 white 2nd Gen RX-7's, and one day in town I saw 3 other 2nd gens, all white, and not him https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...1047683329.gif

Was just kidding though, cya.
