Well, when I got my oil change almost 3k miles ago, I forgot what oil weight they had put in. I believe to my knowledge it was 20-5... I don't really remember, so don't flame me.. lol

Yesterday I was 2 quarts low (eek, lemmie alone :() and the only thing in my garage was 20-50 (I think, maybe I got the two backwards and it's flipped...) anyway...

Is that of any harm to have a bit of a mix-match oil weight in the car? I had no other choice as I forgot what walmart put in - and they never put a sticker on my car to tell me what weight they had used at that time...

I think when I go get another oil change in about 400miles or so - I'm gonna have to tel them next time.. cause well yeah.

No harm done

phinsup 09-30-2002 11:19 PM

yea varying weights aren't going to kill you.

christi 09-30-2002 11:36 PM

Nah, seriously. As stupid as it may sound, I was only curious... I didn't know if it' harm anything in the engine or not for mix-matched weights.

Fastrotaries 10-01-2002 12:48 AM

just to try make it a usual habbit, but a once in a lifetime thing isn't going to kill you. What are you doing not changing your own oil.

bigtime 10-01-2002 12:55 AM

just try to not have walmart change ur oil..

YucA 10-01-2002 01:38 AM

that wont do jack...i done that a few times...as long as you dont mix synthetic with non....

Its no big deal to mix synthetic and reg. oil, it just defeats the purpose of the synthetic, its better for example if you have synthetic oil and you are low on oil to top off with regular oil then to run the car with low oil

YucA 10-01-2002 07:05 PM

tru that. i thought you couldnt mi at all.

dysthymia 10-02-2002 07:52 AM

It was worse to run your car low by two quarts than to add something of a different weight. Trust me, you don't want to run your engine too low on oil or your oil seals will burn out and then it will burn oil like there's no tomorrow.

Well, I dunno why I didn't change it the last time. The first time I changed it myself. I think it was because of my mom, and her bitchin' about not having someone "near" me when I do it, incase I screw up sigh, oh well.

Fastrotaries 10-05-2002 02:06 AM

your mom worries too much. But the oil is the easiest thing to do i think. Well besides putting gas in it.

Fastrotaries 10-05-2002 02:06 AM

my mom does too, and i haven't lived in the house for 6 years. At least she cares.

rxxtasy 10-08-2002 06:33 PM

some is better then none at all.

Ugh, I'm going to KILL walmart. They never gave me a print out of my last oil change I did with them to tell me how many miles I had it changed at, to know when I need another change.

Not cool. Cause now i'm not sure......

but thanks all for the replies.

Fastrotaries 10-08-2002 11:31 PM

yeah, well if you can't exactly remember when was the last time you changed your oil then it's probably been too long.

christi 10-09-2002 12:02 AM

yeah, I'm gonna change it tomorrow - myself. heh.

turborotor 10-10-2002 10:48 AM

Just get some regular dyno juice. Some Castrol GTX is good, 20w50 is good where you live. Don't use synthetic it doesn't burn well.

LOL, i dint know walmart did tune ups. i did all the work myself, u feel a lot safer knowing whats going in and outta ur car. u never know now a days with these sick fucks what they'll put in it

christi 10-11-2002 12:19 AM

this is true, but my mom is a worry wart... ya know how that goes.

Anyway, yeah walmart does all that ****. You gotta have the "super" walmart. heh

But yeah... tomorrow or this weekend, since I forgot when I last had it changed, and walmart supposely does not have it in their records, I'm gonna do it myself... hopefully it does NOT rain.. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/smile.png
