ok right now i got a 3rd gen supra. its preety fast but its heavy and damn rx7s look good. i was planning on getting another supra but i've been thinking bout rx-7 more and more. so what do you guys think i should do? what can i do with about 5-7 thousand? what is a good site to look for some parts, i can't find much? anything i should know? i think i'll get a 89-91 turbo where should i go from there? thanks for any help.

One thing is for sure, just drive an rx7 once and you'll know what to do. You won't feel anything like this on other cars, believe me. But try one that is in good shape. :bigok:

As for your other questions, the other guys on this forum would answer better than me. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...#>/biggrin.png

yeah i've been doing a lot of research im diffenitly going with rx7. supra is still hella nice though. im still trying to figure out rotory engine its preety interesting. how much do you think a 89-91 turbo would go for. im seeing 3-4 thousand. do you think it would be cheaper to find one with a blown engine and the drop a new one in? what problems do rx-7's have that i should look for?

You can probably get a pretty strong running TII for 5000. I would say if you got the money buy a nice one that runs and than throw your money at mods like exhaust, intake and other stuff. If you did buy one with a blown motor, you could go with a J-spec engine for around 1000. Otherwise a rebuilt engine will be about 1700. and basic rebuild supplys will be around 1000 if you do the work your self. But hey, taking apart is half the fun :thefinger:

yeah i think i'm just gonna try to find one with a blown engine. im in san diego if anyone has one and wants to sell it. oh one more question i heard that rotory engines are hard to smog is this true?

The old battle between supras and rx7s huh. Well, we have a 1991 Supra turbo in our lil club in my town...its my buddy's. Its quick, but the thing about supras vs rx7s to me is two things...one, rx7s outhandle them, I feel better driving the rx7 then I do the supra. Rx7s mod for mod are always faster then a supra. Supras are longer and heavier cars. Both look about the same if you ask me. You can check out www.rx7.com www.shaneracing.com www.rx-7store.net and www.atkinsrotary.com for parts and rebuild info. An 89 to 91 Turbo Rx7 will be harder to come by, but they are really nice...look to pay about $5K and up for one.

You should be able to find a 89-91 T2 with a dead motor for about $1500. That's how much I payed for mine. Interior is perfect too.

thanks for the links. Infini IV, did you do the swap yourself? if so i'll probably have a lot of questions for ya, but i better work on trying to find a car first.

Infini IV 05-13-2002 08:44 PM

My friend and I did everything. The hardest part was getting all the bolts off from the very beginning. Since my car had never been worked on, the bolts had gotten stuck really bad. I've also noticed Mazda doesn't design the car with much room to work on. Lucky my friend had some nice tools. There are still a lotta stuff I have to fix to get the car complete, but they are relatively easy.

Feel free to ask a lotta questions, I'm sure everyone on this board will be helpful.

I think it was 13Bace that called his car a 1.3 litre pollution pump! Yes they put out nasty emissions with aftermarket exhaust, but you can always switch back to cats when it is smog time. You might want to check out www.thepartstrader.com for used cars. I have seen many a burnt up TII's for less than 2000 in California on that site. You could also take a look at www.fc3s.org to get an idea of buying a J-spec.
