I've been slowly working on a S4 TII swap (using an engine i know almost nothing about, having bought it off of someone on the club for $400 in 'running' condition, no history) into my 'vert, and today was the first day of actual, on-road testing. So i'm cruising along, making sure the brakes still felt fine, the steering still worked etc, and pulled into an empty parking lot to see how it accelerates. well, firstly, it pulled like hell in 2nd, suprising me... seemed like a bit more than the ~190 hp i was expecting. It got to about 6 1/2 psi on the autometer boost gauge, then there was a slight "pop", so slight that i may have just imagined it, and the car lost basically all power, and would not hold idle. It was a real pain in the ass to restart when it died too.

So I limped her home, pulled the rear trailing plug, and was getting 3 consistant "puff"'s from the rear while cranking, and 3 consistant "WHOOSH"'s from the front (for comparison, since i dont have a compression tester). Inspecting the seals thru the plug hole, the rears all appear to be there, and seemed ok as best I could see. It wasnt smoking either.

Either way, she seems dead and in need of a rebuild. Anything else I should try to confirm this? Who rebuilds these engines around the NY/NJ area?

dang that sux, were u using all the t2 ecu and injectors, afm, boost sensor, and fuel pump and stuff?

i had the TII pressure sensor, afm, a walboro 255lph pump, the injectors that came on the engine (the plugs matched the description for an 88 TII, plugged in in place of the 88 NA ones on the NA harness), and the 'vert's N338 ecu, which i have heard of people testing and running turbo's off of without problems.

Either way, the engine's toast at this point and i'm pulling it on friday for a rebuild. In the mean time i'm building a megasquirt to control it, and will be looking for an eventual 300 crank hp. What combos of injectors will do this? either with the stock primaries, or matched with each other.

Dual 720s?, 550 and 1000?

with the MSnS i would like to run up to about 80% duty cycle, instead of the stock 65ish

i put a s5 TII in my 91 coupe with the stock NA computer at first. felt wayyy more powerful with that. but when i put the correct s5 TII ECU, car ran smoother and safer. the timing on the ecu's is different. i heard the NA ones read boost, but i dont believe it. i think you might of broken or damaged a side seal...

hmm, i had heard that the problem with reading boost was in the sensor, at least for S4's, and that the N338 was designed to be able to run either, that it only came in the 88 'vert when the wiring harnesses between turbo and na were still (slightly) incompatible, to make it cheaper to produce rather than swapping harnesses between turbo and NA on the "low volume" 'vert. Supposedly it has NA timing but a turbo fuel map, altho thats based off of limited testing over at the club.

Any suggestions for injector sizes?

it probly would have been a good i dea to put like 100-200 miles on the engine before you tried WOT. ( depending on how long the engine was sitting. )
