I've had NA's for 7 years now and this one over the past 3 years I've dumped so much of my own time and money in to. Lately I don't even drive it because its so freakin loud and stiff suspension, etc. Maybe I'm just getting older and soft.. don't know. What really woke me up is I took my DD to the track (97 Nissan SE-R) and ran a 15.0 @ 91 on street tires with just intake, header, and pullies. I'd be lucky as hell to do that with my 7. The thing is the 7 is great through the turns, is clean as hell since I baby it, has 77k original, runs great, and like I said has a ton of my own hard work into it. I've killed the resale value with all the mods and removal of accessories and shite. I don't want to do a T2 swap because it runs great and don't want to deal with that hassle and uncertainty behind the used parts I'd get. What should I do? Anyone have a basically stock running T2 they'd trade? I love 7's and wouldn't want to sell it at a huge loss and have nothing then. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...DIR#>/wink.png

I went for a ride in an new Rx2 when I was 12 (yes, I AM that ol....) pedal to the metal all the way, & I was hooked. I've got plastic see thru models of engines, rotary model aircraft engines, books, posters, rotor housing doorstops...........sad, sad, sad FC I have done the same thing (DD is faster, easier etc) and sold my rote. Always ended up missing the things & buying another.... did that a few times before I learned! https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/blink.png The final solution for my lack of faith came with 3 rotors.....I will never stray again! |
same thing goes thru my head everytime I look at my car.
sell it.....keep it..... sell it...... keep it hurts to convert it because it runs so good what to do-what to do? |
my 83 is kinda like that, its fun to drive but its slow, i could upgrade and make it fast, but i kinda like having just a stock car too. i kinda decided just to enjoy it like it is rather than mod it. it is a lot of fun in the turns, and like point a to point b stuff, but its prolly a high 16second car

lol, I guess my point is I love it too much to give it up but not enough to keep dumping money into it. I'm sure you guys know what I mean. I just need some motivation once in a while. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...#>/biggrin.png

And when you live in a country where you can get a new WRX for the same price as a 7 yo FD it REALLY tests the faith......
|
I just tell myself I have to keep it forever, for economical reasons. Even if I replaced the entire engine, and everything that doesn't work, it'll still cost less than a new car. Plus if I sell it, I would never get what I put in.
If I feel down about my car, I like to take someone for a ride, someone who's never been in my car. They usually don't have a sports car, so they like the thrill (even if it's not turbo). Just the expression on their face during a donut is enough to make me love my car all over again. |
i'll buy your shell...hehe https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...#>/biggrin.png

If you really want a fast FC without all the problems of mods and forced induction, you need to look outside the rotor housing. If I were you and truly loved the FC for what it is: a great handling chassis that looks like sex on wheels, I would get your FC back to stock, sell it, sell all the removed mods, and buy someone's LS1-V8 converted FC for $5k. There was just a beast like this for sale on Torquecentral.com. What a deal. Do you realize how fast a mildly modded LS-1 FC is? We're talking 11 second range, all motor. The aluminum block GM LS-1 is not much heavier than the six port 13B and weighs about as much as a fully equipped REW, without all the headaches.
I know this is a "no" pistons site, but hey, you asked for a solution and as you see, the only affordable and practical one lies outside the clique of rotary adherents found here. I love the rotary, but it is not the most efficient powerplant from a size and weight to horsepower standpoint if reliability is taken into accound. Witness all the broken turbo rotary cars here . . . you know you want to give in to your temptation . . . come on, V8's are not all that bad . . . everybody loves Corvettes . . . GO FOR IT |
I appreciate the advice but that is one thing I will not do.. a V8 conversion. One of the reasons I love the FC (or any RX for that matter) is the unique rotary engine. I'm not too worried about all out speed but would like it to be faster. One day when this motor kicks the bucket, I will go ahead with the turbo conversion. For now, I'll just enjoy the twisties and like you said, the sexy look of the FC... that never changes.
Yesterday, I put the full interior back in and it quieted it down big time inside. It looks so much better too.. the interior is in great shape. I don't care about the extra 60 pounds or whatever.. the car is slow anyway lol. |
