yeaahh....i just got an 88 se and ive heard different crap of how to maintain it .....im kind of a perfectionist and everything has to be the way it needs to be ...........if neone can spare their time i wanna know wat kind of oil would be best..... tranny fluid .....if injector cleaner is safe to put in a rotary(if it was a piston i would just throw it in there)......just any random thing that comes out of ur head....i want to try to have the right stuff in my car considering im only 17 and i dont have the loot to have this engine break down on me...

thanx to anyone thats willin to help a brotha out https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/bigok.gif

well as far as oil I use Castrol GTX, now the argument on oil is lengthy, some say use synthetic, other say no, but in my mind since oil is getting put strait into the motor, it has to burn and a conventional oil will burn off better than a synthetic. For the rest of the drivetrain I use royal purple. And as far as injector cleaner if you are using an ethanol gas then definitly use a FI cleaner, as ethanol is sticky and can cause the fuel system to gum up. any other ques. feel free to ask and welcome aboard!

Tune up wise,

Change your fuel filter (MAZDA & FRAM works fine)

Change your spark plugs... only NGK's

Change your spark plug wires .. whatever you choose.. i recommend NGK or Jacobs

I heard ZMAX works good on rotaries. I personally use Castrol GTX 20-50 but I want to switch to royal purple. Only thing is I have an oil leak somewhere and it will only contribute to it more. As for your transmission fluid, look for REDLINE. I have never used any fuel injector because most products are designed for piston engines. GLuck

Check in the 2nd Gen Faq's section. There is a whole topic dedicated to maintanence and what to check and look out for.

well i'm learning some opinions in here my self so i think its cool i use a 10w30 cause i heard its a good breakin oil and thats what i wanted was to baby it and break the motor back in because i wasn't sure of the motors condition... but i'm switching to a royal purple 20w50 soon.

Streetrally 09-18-2003 02:57 PM

On the back of redline fluids, it says not to put in all transmissions because it may cause "gear clash". I have never heard of anything like that and would it be a problem in our trannies? I put mobil one in my tranny instead of the redline because of that statement. Any one have any comments on this?

there's a company called central petroleum. they've been in the oil biuesness since about the 1930's. i've got to look that date up but that's whats comming to mind. anyways, they only use 100% pure parrafin oil and it outperforms synthetic. it's cheaper too. been running their 20w50 for years. they've also got some fuel additives that you'll love if anyone is interested i'll get you a phone number. as far as running fuel injector cleaner, it's fine. injector cleaner is designed to burn in the combustion chamber and the Wankel is a combustion engine. enjoy your car man!

thanx for the info .....yeah since the breaks need to be pressure blead i got STP heavy duty break fluid...theres maddd pressure built up...i noticed how bad they were when i took it around the block lol...im lucky i stopped at all.....since its lighter and its gonna get colder soon.....i got prestone anti freeze and coolant....since the warning lights are goin off for these things other than fi cleaner and brake fliud

thanx again

bart3lz 09-18-2003 05:39 PM

ohhh yeah ...another thing....when it starts up it idles at around 1500 fora little then goes down to 1000....then goess back up to 1500 like its struggling to stay at a steady idle...the preious owner said that its most likely in the fuel line .....thats why i got the fi cleaner just to see wat happens....if anyone knows why this might be let me know

thanx

Which redline fluid is this? For the 7, I use MTL or MT-90 in the trans and 75W90 gear oil in the diff. I use shockproof light in my other cars trans. I don't remember seeing this.

pinfield357 09-19-2003 12:14 PM

i got MT 90 in my turbo 2 tranny and it made a world of diference (for the better) https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...#>/biggrin.png

bart3lz 09-19-2003 02:18 PM

correction since its gettin colder now i got 5w30 pnnzoil and its lighter

GarageBoy 09-19-2003 06:15 PM

Fram has a poor repuation for domestic guys, so try something else

bart3lz 09-19-2003 09:49 PM

dude we're talkin bout fc's...last time i checked they were imports....

FDRacing 09-19-2003 10:02 PM

I dont like fram as a general rule. I work at Advance and i never reccomend anything other than puralator for both air, fuel, and oil filters.

FCmaniac 09-19-2003 10:47 PM

That's what pisses me off about Autozone. They have Fram and Bosch but no Purolator. I use Mazda parts but when I can't I'll use Purolator.

FDRacing 09-19-2003 10:52 PM

Autozone are dickheads. We get really pissed off when people write checks to autozone and im like "advance auto, say it with me"

bacca 09-20-2003 12:13 AM

on the oil filter and other filters NEVER use FRAM... look into getting a K&N for the air box. make sure you change the oil every 3000 mi or less. the engine is good for alot of mi. if you take care of it. Look for a local rx7 car club they are one if the best recources and they love to help Newbies. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...1047683894.gif

pbrx7 09-20-2003 07:39 AM

buy wix filters. oriellys auto parts carries them.

FDRacing 09-20-2003 08:59 AM

We dont carry wix but we have a book to cross a number to wix brand, never got that.

FCmaniac 09-20-2003 11:41 AM

Advance Auto ****** rules. You guys have Dayco top cog belts too right?? The only Advance near me relocated to I don't know where and I'm stuck with Autozone. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/smile.png

FDRacing 09-20-2003 01:58 PM

As for the belts yea we do. As for the check prob, im sure ill see it again. Speaking of AA, time to get in the shower, 4 to 10 then off to dover for the race in the morn!!!!

Nemesis 09-20-2003 02:07 PM

I just started using Advance, I love them. I was a regular O'Reily customer before the change.

Can you believe O'Reily doesn't carry fuel injection rated fuel line??? They wouldn't refund my money on the fuel line they sold me incorrectly either. The idiots at Autozone tried to sell me transmission cooler line when I asked for fuel injection rate fuel line. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...1047683664.gif
