Ok. so this morning i get a phone call from kraig (iluv88), and he tells me he wants to take the engine and tranny out today. I snag some food, and head on my way. I end up at his place and he already stripped the car down to just the block. So it was easy from there. Well, we take the exhaust off ... easy. Then we start on the tranny. We used the jack to hold it in place, it worked well untill then tranny got caught on the flywheel and pulled the engine back almost 90 degrees! The engine mounts were toast after that one! So we say **** it and keep pulling the tranny. We get it off and take it outside. Then we go to the engine. Well already the engine is flipped almost upside down! Then we remember we dont have an engine hoist and since the only other vehicle was my rx7, renting one was not an option!

So only the engine pull! We sit for about 10 minutes brain storming ways to get it out. All fluids were drained (that we knew of), so we figured it wouldnt be too heavy. Ive picked up a 12a by myself easy and the 13bt isnt much heavier. So 2 guys should have it easy. Well... you'd think!

Starts off with me unbolting the last bolt on the engine mount. Last turn comes around, and BAM!! Engine falls right on my hand and pins it! Cut my hand good, nothing bad .. just a nice cut.

So we come up with the idea of lifting the engine out by hand. Try that, figure out really quick it aint gonna happen. So We tie a rope around the engine and try to throw it over a support beam in his garage. Only problem is that we didnt want to take the hood off the car so the rope would be at an angle on the engine. That was a no go. So then we come up with a better idea! He has one of those cool bendy ladder. Well we bend it all up and put it in the engine bay then go horizontal out of the engine bay, so we could use the rope and pull it up. Well even with the rope it didnt want to come out, it kept getting snagged. So we lifted the engine with the jack, and tied it off with the rope. Now the engine is atleast lifted to the radiator support

So we put the jack under the engine, pull on the rope, put a bar through the ropes on the engine, use play wood on the radiator support, and a wheel barrow at the front of the car! We lift hard, get the engine up, set it on the plywood, it slides down and into the wheel barrow!!! Success!! That my friends is the ghetto way to literally PULL your engine.
