phinsup talked about putting a fuel pump switch to turn off the pump when the engine is flooded...can anyone tell me how they manage to do it? i'd like a picture of the setup and instructions on how to do it....if its possible....and it'd be a good idea to put that in the how-to section after...

13BAce 03-26-2002 12:23 PM

Just get an inline switch and wire it up to the positive lead on the fuel pump.

winger 03-26-2002 12:32 PM

yes but cant you get the fuel pump wires somewhere near the dash board? i intend to put the switch on my dash board to have easy access, you know the ones with the red security lever like in airplanes (just to fancy out things a bit).

I'd just to cut the positive wire and run to wires to my switch on my dashboard..wouldnt it be easier that way?

What about the fuse box? isnt there a fuse for the fuel pump?

dac 03-26-2002 12:38 PM

Just pull the RELAY under the hood. If you motor is flooding that often to install I switch I would get that fixed.

There's a website that has a device that is suppose to solve all flooding problems with the Mazda ECU.

I don't know where the wire is under the dash. I would just go directly to the fuel pump.

Alright, I'll try to figure it out by myself...else i'll just run it from the strut tower....i'll keep you guys updated whenever i find the best way to do it

You can check out the factory manuals at both http://www.fc3s.org and http://www.iluvmyrx7.com .

tda79 03-26-2002 03:04 PM

hey you could just do what I did .....I really hated to get out to pull my relay especially in the rain or cold so I put the switch in the simplest way I know how....I put an in line switch on the line that goes to the relay under the hood...and the switch is on my dash.....all you need is about 11 feet of wire(enough to hide it and not look like dukie) and a on/off toggle switch from any auto/electrical store. and the rest is history....very simple ....trust me ...If I can do it....anybody can..

hope it helps

tda79 03-26-2002 03:07 PM

by the way the relay should have "INJ" or something to that effect on it.

phinsup 03-26-2002 03:37 PM

yea what tda79 said, I did the same thing. 13BAce is right though if you have a problem you need to get that looked at. I just use it for occasional flooding.

Rob x-7 03-26-2002 04:13 PM

Under your steering column, to the right of it, there is a plug with a bunch of wires in it, if memory serves me correctly, there is like 10 or so wires on that plug, maybe more? Its raining, so im not looking outside now. When your car floods, you can simply reach under and pull that plug out, and after the car starts, simply plug it back in while the car is running, you have to do it fast, cause once your car uses the fuel in the system, it will shut off again if you dont plug it back in. Now once again, if memory serves me correctly, on that plug, there is 2 blue wires that join together and are on the same prong, all you have to do is cut either wire, and run it to a switch. When it stops raining, I can double check everything for you, but tell me how that works out for you.

winger 03-26-2002 05:29 PM

cool...i just got a switch from the electric store...i'll see whats the best way to do it...but im still wondering where the positive lead of the fuel pump goes to...it must end up under the steering column or wherever there's electricity...

btw...if you hide the switch..it makes a damn good anti-start system

If you lift the rear carpet you can get to the wiring.

Rob x-7 03-26-2002 07:57 PM

Like I stated, wire the switch in with either of those blue wires.

kimo3 03-27-2002 12:28 AM

just cut the black ground wire to the fuel pump, this will cut the power to the pump. use a push type toggle switch, run two wires for the switch under the carpet to where you want it. wire the switch, I put mine in the center console. when your car starts to flood out push the switch untill your car starts and then release it.. what you might want to do also is to have them cleaned too. what is happening is lne is stuck open and letting fuel into the chamber and

i have the webb addy for a company from australia for the anti-flooding mod but there site isn't working right now. I will post it as soon as i can

winger 03-27-2002 08:21 AM

I just had a quick look at the 88 FSM and it seems that the wires are under the carpet near the driver's door. They should end up by the steering column somewhere. I wont have a chance to check it out until tomorrow night but as I said, I'll keep you informed on this...I might as well do some sort of how-to and post it with pictures and what not

< are my posts not going through that youre not listening to me? LOL! Im telling you where the wires go to, and how to wire a switch in, if you want to put the switch under your dash, youll need about 6" of wire. Snip either of the blue wires, like I said, there are 2 on one prong, then run it to your switch, then the wire from your switch back to where you snipped the wire on the plug. And youre done.

winger 03-27-2002 08:02 PM

:sleepy:

hmm i guess i didnt see it...i'll do that tomorrow night

kimo3 04-01-2002 10:27 PM

Here is the new web adress for that co. in Australia with that anti flooding mod. Talk to guys at RP they say it wroks good.

winger 04-02-2002 02:27 PM

I finally did it, I ran the switch from the 2 blue wires on the prong!!!! Kicks ass....with it, I got to drive it for the first time with the new engine and first time also this YEAR!!!! can't wait until I pass inspection, If I do, cuz I'm still missing a passenger side passing port light....anyone has one? i'll give u $10 for it !!!

Rob x-7 04-02-2002 04:31 PM

See, and all it took was a few inches of wire right? What light do you need exactly? Port light?

winger 04-02-2002 04:53 PM

its not actually a light, just a big lense

its right under the headlight, the clear plastic lense, some call it the FTP (flash to pass)

Rob x-7 04-02-2002 05:40 PM

Some guy is selling used ones on Ebay, I know new they go for like $40 or so, but if you get one new one, and youre other one is beat, your car will look funny, then again, it looks sooooo good when you get 2 new ones. you dont need those for inspection by the way.

winger 04-02-2002 05:55 PM

$40 new for just 1 right?

Rob x-7 04-02-2002 07:05 PM

Yes, for one. Those lenses look so nice when they are new though. Did your old one fall out, or did you smash it?

winger 04-02-2002 07:40 PM

it was already smashed when I bought the car...I might as well change both...they kinda look yellowish, probably because of the age

kimo3 04-02-2002 10:24 PM

I would like to know where you can get one for $40. Mazda wants up to $100 and RP wants 145 for the Jspec ones

Mazdatrix sells them for about $70 each.

winger 04-03-2002 11:44 AM

doesnt that tell you how much rx7 parts are overpriced???

$140 for 2 plastic lenses....im gonna go with used ones

who has a a passenger side one for sell??

Rob x-7 04-03-2002 03:54 PM

When I got them 2 years ago, I paid under $100 for 2, keeping in mind the shop gets beween 20-25% discount. MazdaTRix as of today sells them for $62. Where are you that you were told $100? Can you post a pic of J-spec flash to pass lenses, I never seen them before.

i did the fuel cut off on mine ,(88 nert na ) the relay for the egi-fuel pump is located on the steering colum under the dash about half way down. it has a six terminal plug and is connected to a yellow receptor. disconect the plug ,be careful not to berak off the snaps on each side that lock it in place. after you unplug it you will see two black wires w/ white stripes on them, cut the smallest of the two, it is a single black wire, not the two that are together. be sure to use a duty rated switch @ 20 amps, so you won't burn the switch up. connect the leads from your switch to the wires you just cut. you can mount the switch in the air/con vent that is directly under the dash the one that blows towards the seat. use the switch like this . just before you cut the ignition of cut the switch off in about 3-5 secs the engine will die. then cut the ignition off. you have just burned all the fuel that was in the chamber and there is none there to flood. when restarting start cranking first then flip the switch. varooom you are in business. for those of you who can't put the switch in just pull the EGI fuse before you cut he car off and put the fuse in your pocket, great theft deterant. also if your car is flooded try cranking it first for5-6 secs with the EGI fuse out. THEN put the fuse back and crank with the pedal to the floor there is a switch (factory installed) that cuts the fuel pump off during start when the pedal is to the floor. hope this helps . https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...#>/biggrin.png
