i take it these cars are known for leaky injectors and hard starts when hot! that is my main problem also, like alot of other people apparently! just by reading alot of your topics i am learning about this car! pretty helpful! i have always been a V-8 man, but i really like this car! alot of potential! i picked up my car for 500 bucks in almost perfect running condition for a gas saver, (even though i drive it like it is a race car), lol.... interior excellent, brand new radiator, tires and some other misc stuff! paint needs some work and now i am having motor problems! i have already posted a topic about the hard starts and smoking issues! now my questions are about the leaky injectors and some stuff i have been hearing about the deflood switch or button! i think for the most part the reason my car is starting rough and smoking is from flooding and leaky injectors! now for the question..... lol..... can anyone tell me where this deflooding switch is??? i here alot of people talking about it, but noone ever says where it is! trying to learn all the abriviations too! lol! if anyone can give me some info on this i would be very thankful! i am about to put a new motor in it, but if i don't have to then i would rather not! the car only has 116k on it 4k i put on it in the past few months! i really want to fix the hard starting issues and smoking issues! car runs pretty good once started!

one more thing...... it gets hot after idleing for about 10 mins! it has new radiator like mentioned above, new water pump, fluid, hoses, clutch fan... pretty much everything with the cooling, but yet still gets hot at idle! any info on this???

thank you..... ahead of time! lol!

you heating issue could be caused by a bad sending unit. as far as the flooding issue, I dont have my manual handy to tell you where the relay is located but if I am not mistaken it is under the dash. I just forget exactly what to look for.

This is also a highly talked about topic like you mentioned. I am sure that maybe somewhere someone mentioned something about the location and which relay it is. Best of luck to you,

-B.

thanks for the info! but what sending unit??? do you know what the relay is called, because i have a pretty good manual, actually acouple pretty good ones! i can find it in that! if you are talking about the fuel pump relay, then i know where that is! they are mentioning a deflooding switch under the hood, but where??? lol!

fcs13 01-29-2007 12:07 AM

deflooding switch, thats it! Try looking under the fuel systems section. It should show a diagram of the engine bay and an arrow of some sort pointing towards the relay.

The sending unit I am talking about is the Water Temp sending unit. It can be found on the drivers side of the block just below the oil pressure sending unit and to the left. it is a pretty small piece with a male connector looking thing protruding off of it. I think the color wire is like yellow with an orange line or maybe red, not sure.

The sending unit looking thing on the top part of the radiator is just a water level sensor.

sorry to miss prove u, but you simply have to pull a relay under the hood if u look on the drivers side near the front of the engin bay right by the strut tower you will see a relay panel it almost looks like a fuse box it has 6-8 relays in it and they are all in a strait line pull out the second one from the left its orange or pink then crank the car for 5-10 seconds turn ignition to off put the fuse back in where you got it try starting the car as normal should start right up

89rx7gtu 01-29-2007 12:42 AM

hell yeah! thanks alot guys! if you find anything else out, then keep posting! i am going to try that fuse like you are talking about (jwteknix)! i will get back to you! thanks everyone!

Better than that the fuel pump relay is under the dash on the right side fo the steering column.

89rx7gtu 01-29-2007 12:54 AM

yeah, i found that in another topic someone was talking about so checked it out! it is the yellow and black one??? thanks!

jwteknix 01-29-2007 12:54 AM

that ones new to me i learn some thing new every day i just pop the hood

89rx7gtu 01-29-2007 12:59 AM

lol! yeap!

jwteknix 01-29-2007 01:06 AM

alot of time people slice the wire and put a switch in so they dont have to pull any thing or get out of the car also the rtek ecu allows you to just push your foot down all the way on the gas to deflood

89rx7gtu 01-29-2007 01:11 AM

how would you splice into that? or should i say which wire would you splice into? i will do that tomorrow, if i know what wire! the foot pedal to the floor doesn't work all that great, but if i lightly tap the gas while turning it over then it works sometimes! i really want to know what's with the smoke though! it is like a smoke bomb when it starts! i am actually starting to call it that! lol!

jwteknix 01-29-2007 01:21 AM

well sir idk witch wire you will have to get yourself a fsm or haynes manual and find out of try to find a write up im sure some one has one if not on this forum try searchin rx7club.com they have mad **** but they are assholes so make sure you search before postoing a thread. heres a copy of the fsm make sure you add it to your favorites http://208.62.166.66:82/guest/shop_manuals/86-88FSM/

89rx7gtu 01-29-2007 01:25 AM

i will figure it out, or just relocate the relay to where i can just reach under neith the dash and unplug it! but i will figure out which wire is the power wire and ground and then wire in the switch! shouldn't be to hard to figure out which is which! thanks!

jwteknix 01-29-2007 01:31 AM

no probem man im bout to be out its 230 here and i worked on my 7 all day im ****** beat

1988RedT2 01-29-2007 06:12 AM

I always used to pull the fuse under the hood. Actually, I pulled two of them, INJ and ECU or something like that. Then floor it and crank it for 10 or 20 seconds.

I don't know if I'd be hacking up my wiring to put in a switch that's really a band-aid. If your injectors are dirty enough to drip fuel when its not running, how good is the flow when they're supposed to be working? The best thing, of course, is to pull the injectors and get them cleaned and flow tested. This fixed mine 100%, and I was having to pull those fuses almost every time I got gas before I got them cleaned.

If you've got a lot of smoke, I'm guessing you've got other issues as well. Does the engine use oil? Coolant? How many miles on it? Does it run well otherwise?

jwteknix 01-29-2007 09:56 AM

also put in new seats and orings

89rx7gtu 01-30-2007 12:09 AM

i am going to do both of those things that you guys say! my motor has about 116,500 miles on it! it does burn oil and use coolant! i will use about a quart of oil every week and about a half gallon of coolant every week! this should be normal, because from what i understand that one of the things that makes this car run, is that it injects oil in with the fuel as it runs! if that is the case then i can see how it would use oil! as for the coolant issue, hell i don't know, because i have checked everything that has to do with external coolant leak, and nothing! i know that i am not leaking coolant in the oil, or at least not alot, because my oil is not milky! at any rate, tell me what you think guys! thank you!

jwteknix 01-30-2007 12:22 AM

damn your not supposed to be burning that much coolant and oil thats alot

89rx7gtu 01-30-2007 01:20 AM

i was thinking the same! it smokes alot on start up! i mean ALOT! a CLOUD! lol! that is why i temporarly gave it the name "smoke bomb"! lol! the coolant issue, i was reading another thing on mazdatrix talking about how i might of either blown a coolant seal or cracked the housing, because the car does get hott at idle! it does fine when driving down the road, but after sitting for a little while it gets hot! when i rev up to about 2500 rpms for a second it goes back down to normal running temperature or when i take off it will! sometimes without even reving up it will go back to normal running temp on its own! hell idk!
