How often should the fuel filter be changed out? Im still trying to fix my problem with 3800 rpms and bought a new fuel filter today thinking it may help.

I change mine once a year but it sits most of the time. That may be overkill. Some people say every 15K. Some say every 30K.

Unless you have rust or other crud in your tank, the filter will easily last the Mazda recommended change interval, which I'm guessing is 30k miles. But then again, it can't hurt!

it can't hurt, i thought it was 30k+. U say u have a 3800 rpm problem? Have u had the injectors replaced/cleaned, check the wiring harness connections too, reground it, and check the ecu. Those are more than likely were your problems at.

vosko 11-12-2002 09:40 AM

i'm pretty sure MOST rx7's have the original filter or that is just how it looks https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...DIR#>/wink.png

the change interval is 30k, but most places dont change it as part of a normal service, so vosko is probably right.

**** 1Revvin, Ive been having this problem forever and still cant fix it! I changed out the secondary injectors, changed the pressure sensor, resistor solenoid, rewired new connectors to the injectors, different ecu and tune up and still nothing has worked. I heard about the grounding and i checked most of them but j9fd3s told me about a ground wire in another post that I may not have that goes from the top of the motor to the firewall. Yet, I dont know exactly where to look because I dont remember if it was ever there or I dont have somebody elses car to look and compare. If anyone has any really good pics of this ground please post them so I can compare my car with they're car. Thanks for all the help.

That ******* filter can be a bitch to get off, and its like $25 or some **** as well so alot of guys dont bother with it.

If you got the car and never changed it, just change it.

My theory is always if you never changed it or dont remember what it looks like, its time to replace.

i have heard a least a handful of ppl say they fixed their 3800 problem with regrounding. That ground u are talking about goes from a bolt right next to the windshield wiper motor to a piece of the wiring harness right by the 4 emmissions solenoids, right near the oil filler neck, behind the primary fuel rail.

pengaru 11-12-2002 08:14 PM

just add grounds, you don't need to compare it to other cars... grab some nice gauge wire and add grounds here and there and everywhere... they can't hurt. check your fuel pump wiring too, 80's cars can be such a bitch.
