Does anyone have any tips on removing the flywheel from an S5 N/A motor. I have gotten the flywheel nut removed and I have tried using a T-bar gear puller, a large pry bry, and a 5lb dead blow hammer. Nothing is breaking this ******* thing free. HELP!!!!!!!!

Try... i forget the name of them. It's a puller. The one i used had three protruding bars that sat on the flywheel and then a large screw in the middle that tightened down on to the E-shaft. I think I put something on the end of the E-shaft Can't remember exactly though, it's been a while.

me and iluvmy88 were beating on my old flywheel for about 2 hours before it came off. We used a blow torch, hammers, mallets, pry bars, pullers, etc... lol
all i can say is keep trying, its a bitch... |
use a block of firewood go to town on it. it will vibrate and pop off...... thats my dirty redneck way to get it off https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/smile.png

Last one i took apart wouldn't come off either finally i took a 8 pound sledge to it, worked like a charm... but i won't be reusing that flywhell

the T puller works great, I usually get it on the thing and load it up real nice then smack the flywheel with a dead blow plastic hammer and it pops right off, not even 5 mins, seriously. Sometimes I don't even have to use the hammer, just loading up the puller pops it off.
remember to leave the nut on a few turns so the flywheel doesnt fly off and land on your foot. |
i broke (into 2 pieces) a cast Autozone timing gear puller and a cast Napa harmonic balancer/general purpose puller before finally biting the bullet and buying a quality forged puller from MSC ($65). gave it some good tension and rapped the flywheel at the edge with a mallet and, not much later, i was checking out the internals of my very trashed engine. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...#>/biggrin.png
might also hit the flywheel/e-shaft taper interface with some penetrating oil for good luck. |
