Ok guys,

Yes I can go out and buy a kit for this....but man I cannot see how paying over $1000 for a kit is worth it. Hell I got my TII for $1000.

So one of my future upgrades is going to be a Turbo Upgrade (Stage 3 or 4 by Majestic). And of course from what I understand the TMIC will not be good enough for this.

Has anyone in here done a DIY FMIC? If you have please post how you did this and the parts you used. Did you take a intercooler from another car and put it on, or make the intercooler?

Anyway I think if someone in here can explain this then a ton of people will be interested....and hopefully more people will do it and make a kind of how-to for it and possible a best practice on DIY FMIC

ok guys just to get everyone started check this out:

Alot of ppl us intercoolers form NPR, Starions, thats what im trying to find.

natas 08-01-2002 12:43 PM

Really,

Are there any writeups on how to do this? I'm sure we could find some of these at a junkyard

vosko 08-01-2002 01:10 PM

i'm running a NPR fmic. its not too hard nor too easy to install and you need custom intercooler piping which is annoying. all in all you probably save maybe $300 over getting a complete kit

I just got my Starion IC a few days ago. I am not looking forward to putting this bitch in, and doing all the plumbing. Vosko, have you done the plumbing for your NPR IC yet? Right now I'm in my IC set up a little over $375 ($185 for the IC, and $190 for the BOV). HKS sells all the pipes that you need for the install.

UniqueTII 08-01-2002 01:46 PM

That's a really nice IC...how much is the piping?

1Revvin7 08-01-2002 02:21 PM

yea how much is the piping?

You can just use only old pipes. The HKS pipes are just cast aluminum. So you can probably get the same types of pipes cheaper.

There's a custom bending place in Des Moines that I need to pay a visit to...maybe I could get a couple sets of piping and ICs and sell them.

Rotaryman88 08-01-2002 06:36 PM

Glad to see the IC arrived to you undamaged ILUV. Did you get rid of the 1320, lol? I told ya it was in good shape. Let me know how the rest of your IC project goes...

Scott 89t2 08-01-2002 11:11 PM

I won a starion off ebay a little while ago but haven't gotten it yet. I'll be going in next month or so. I'm going to pick up a few dynomax U bends. I think 2.25". like $15 each. not sure how many I'll need. cut them to meet together and mark then. then get a shop to weld them together for a few dollars. then just use silicone connecters at the IC ends, turbo, and TB.

Yep, that was the first thing to go. Nothing a little paint stripper couldn't fix. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...#>/biggrin.png The fins must have gotten a little banged up in the shipping, because there were a few I had to fix.

Horsepowerfreaks.com sells the HKS pipes, and they are only like $15 each (depending on the type of bends).

it may look easy but its a pain..... i'm just gonna let a shop do all the piping!

What kind of shop?

I'm not looking forward to figuring out the plumbing. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...>/rolleyes.gif It doesn't help that I live in an apartment.

vosko 08-02-2002 08:27 AM

one the tuner shops around here does intercooler piping and i know someone else that can do them for me https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/smile.png

natas 08-02-2002 08:46 AM

Ok so you can use a intercooler from a Starion.

What is this IC like compared to say the Greddy models made for our car. The reason why I am going to a FMIC is that I will be boosting alot higher than stock in the future. What will this IC be able to handle?

Be prepared to take a sawzall and/or roto-zip to your radiator supports. <_<

I was just wondering this too.........

ILUVMY88CABRIO 08-02-2002 12:34 PM

I think you can safely run 15 - 20 psi on them. But I'm sure the Greddy IC would be more efficient at 15+ psi.

1Revvin7 08-02-2002 01:20 PM

how much does one of those starion ic run ya at a junkyard or whatever?

soul assassin 08-02-2002 11:56 PM
