Car: 1989 TII
INfo: -I hvae a FD flywheel already resurfaced -i also ahve capclutch.com upgraded clutch kit good for 300 ft/lbs -the clutch cover, clutch disc and flywheel all align properly (ie the pins on the FD flywheel mate with the holes on the Clutch cover Question: 1.) how do you determine the position of the FD flywheel is that the counter weight can do it's job? Ie how many degrees from (bottom dead centre? <-- bad term for rotary maybe?) 2.) what is the thickness required of the flywheel, the flywheel got resurfaced remember. So if the flywheel was too thin then the clutch will slip because the pressure plate can't press the clutch disc far enough down against the FD flywheel. - i have checked the FSM for 89 TII, it says thickess on pressure plate side is 3.2 mm and 3.2 mm of flywheel side. That makes no sense to me, can someone claify? i want to measure the thickness of the FD flywheel and compare to see if it is in spec. -can i just use a vernier caliper? or mircometer and just determine the thickenss of it that way? - no where does it say in the FSM how to measure the thickness of the flywheel... HELP many thanks -Jason |
1. thats the same, they have to be in the same spot, just cause its a 2 rotor.
2. you arent supposed to turn, only replace. that 3.3 and 3.2 number is the thickness of the clutch disc mike |

I'm not sure how many times the flywheel i have was turned.... i got it for the cost of shipping from a forum member.
When another friend looked at it he noticed that the flywheel material was thin... and questioned whether it would work. |

damn it... anyhow... the machine shop resurfaced the flywheel correctly. They measured the step before the process... and resurfaced the flywheel to the same step size. But the thickness may not be the same... ****. talking to some mechanic friends who don't work on rx7s... they say for hydraulic clutches, resurfacing a flywheel may take out too much material and u will need shims to accomedate for the loss of thickness. =( |
