turbo dan 09-11-2002 10:43 PM

Put the puller back on it and try hitting the flywheel off with a dead blow hammer.

You might have to rotate the flywheel around to keep it even coming off.

I've heard of guys heating it up also.

sleeperRX7 09-11-2002 10:54 PM

im afraid if i heat it up ill ruin the rear eccentric shaft oil seal?

vosko 09-11-2002 11:09 PM

i use a block of firewood. hit the crap out of it with the firewood works like a CHARM.... put on some gloves so you don't get splinters. i know its ghetto but it works https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...#>/biggrin.png

sleeperRX7 09-11-2002 11:11 PM

or warp it by heating it up, thats a mistake! im gonna try to put the puller back on it and hit it hard as hell, i even have a **** load of firewood, im so tired i dont even remember if i have done this already?lol

vosko 09-11-2002 11:15 PM

all my flywheels came off using this method so i'm 3 for 3.............https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...#>/biggrin.png

Geoffman72 09-11-2002 11:19 PM

I just went around with a crowbar between it and the rear housing and it was off in under 5 minutes https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...#>/biggrin.png

The method that always works for me is to pry one side with a prybar while banging the opposite end with a hammer. Doing that in various spots should do the job.

Romeo at T&R showed me that method.

I tried just tapping it with a hammer with the puller on it, but that didn't work. I eventually left the puller on and pried around the edges with a crow bar which popped it off real quick.

dumarjo 09-12-2002 06:19 AM

you need a 20lbs hammer(dead hammer) and bang it on the side every 90 degres and should popup !

my 2 cents

vosko 09-12-2002 08:39 AM

i don't need no stinkin puller https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...#>/biggrin.png

I used a cheap autozone T puller to preload the flywheel then just smacked the flywheel with a large hammer, be sure to leave the big nut on the end of the eccentric shaft if you use this method (or probably any other method too) just threaded on a few turns. It will keep the flywheel from flinging off the eccentric shaft and getting damaged smacking the floor. This method worked for removing my stock flywheel and removing the AT counterweight during my rebuild (switched to the aluminum flywheel first time around).

That autozone T puller is a piece of crap though, I don't suggest getting any tools from there, the build quality is horrible. Broke the double flare tool from them first use.

hmm, speaking of rebuild, that mazdatrix shipment of all new S5 street ported housings should be arriving today https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/smile.png

I just use the puller and run it down with the impact.

That would definately snap the autozone T puller in half https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/smile.png

sleeperRX7 09-12-2002 05:11 PM

i broke the autozone puller, lol and i didnt have to pay for it and i still got my money back on it! trust me my flywheel was on there really really really good, i had to hit it a good dozen times with a 30 pound stump, lol

vosko 09-12-2002 07:20 PM

actually i couldn't get my first flywheel off. took me till the second time to figure out about the block of wood trick https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/smile.png

Bugzuki 09-14-2002 09:18 PM

I used a puller on 2 bolts in the center of the flywheel. Loaded it up some and then hit the puller bolt a couple times with a sledge hammer.

I didn't even have to lug a huge stump around.

sleeperRX7 09-16-2002 01:04 AM

my stump goes everywhere i go,lol

7mech 09-16-2002 04:00 AM

I just used one long threaded bolt(from Mazdatrix flywheel holder). It did the job perfectly the first time around.

horn4858 09-17-2002 08:04 PM

a good t bar puller and a 4lb hammer will do it. tighten puller down and hit center on puller bolt.
