Alright so I finally get my engine back tomorrow. Its coming out of the slammer from 6 months in. Fully rebuilt, brand new seals/gaskets all around, the works. what I need to know are some things about the fluids in the thing. It is an S5 T2 with stock turbo (soon to be BNR STG3) but stock for the time being. What oil should I use? I am also replacing the Tranny fluid. And lastly, what type of coolant/anti freeze is used? 50-50? green? orange? yellow? This little bit of info would be fantastic, thanks again for EVERYTHING you guys, its been most helpful so far with all the suggestions/answers I have received since becoming part of the rotating community.

Your car looks clean. For motor oil, I'd stick to Castrol GTX 20W-50. It seems most like and use this in all rotaries except the RX-8 (Including myself, but during the winter I use Castrol 10W-30.) I assume you have a manual, so use a synthetic gear lube( Redline, NEO, Amsoil, Mobil 1, etc.) I use Amsoil Severe Gear 75W-90 in my FB. The stuff is great but is about $10 a quart. In regards to the coolant, use a good quality green or yellow(it's universial) coolant at a 50-50 mix with distilled water or a 65% distilled - 35% coolant mix.

Do not use synthetic!!



Use regular oil and break it in. Try not to boost very much for about 1000 miles. Once the apex seals ans side seals are seated you can start to tune it and boost it.



After about 7000 miles you can switch to a synthetic blend. Like Catrol Syntec. But I would not go full synthetic. With a 5 quart oil pan you should change your oil every 3K miles anyway and synthetic is made to last 10K and that is not cool in a rotary.



Smell your oil after 3K miles. It smells like gas usually. Change it every 3K miles it will be good for you.



Go with a 10/40 oil to start then switch to a 20/50 once it is broken in.



If the tranny is not new go with synthetic. Coolant should be Green and a 20/80 mix of coolent/water will be fin unless you are someplace really cold then do 50/50.

Thanks, I will be posting more pics of it here soon now that everything is finally coming to a close on finishing. I can hardly wait for her to be on the road. Ill be sure to keep you posted.

It is a 5 speed but how many quarts does it hold? the tranny that is. I have plenty of money left for my fluids and I dont want to mess up and get the wrong stuff right off. I know all about running a motor in. Not to be hard on it for the first 1000 or so miles and then keep up on the routine for a while after. It really isnt that cold here in AL, I think right now its like 40 outside but its also night time so. Plus, it will be warmer here soon. Been going through some weird climate temp changes here lately. But thanks so far for the responces,

Go to www.amsoil.com and click on the online product application guide. Enter your car make, model,etc. and a bunch of specs pop up. It says: Manual Transmission, TURBO..........5.3 pints. I use this site when I'm in a pinch. Also while filling the tranny, stick a finger thru the fill hole and check if you can feel the gear lube a little under the bottom edge of the fill hole.

Hey wow that website helped out a lot. Pretty good info there for stuff. Although I know this is really all opinion based info coming in here. I am going to use the regular oil and not synthetic on the initial start up/running time for it since it is after all a new engine again. Newly rebuilt anyway. Amsoil Is the only way to go..in my opinion
