Bought a '90 non-turbo w/ 132,000 miles (sat for a year) in July for $1200. Good price, great shape. Car ran good for awhile, then started flooding, stalling, not starting, etc. Mazda dealership says to replace engine (reconditioned) for $4700 due to low compression. 2nd opinion from non-Mazda garage says probably a computer problem. They replaced w/2 different salvage units - same result for both. Car ran good for approx. 3 miles then started running rough, raw gas smell, etc. They said the car is dumping fuel. Everything checked out - fuel compression, pump, fuses, wiring, seals, overall compression, throttle sensor, fuel pressure regulator, etc. They said the injectors aren't pulsating (?). They also performed unflood procedure with no result. Diagnostics aren't showing anything. We're stumped! Can anyone help?

Have u checked out the ignition system? maybe that urs prob. cuz everything else seems good... Fuel, block, compression, seals, I mean what else could it be? U said stalling and not starting that sounds like ur rex isn't sparking. :frown: And maybe all that fuel/mixtur just sits there and floods it.

Thanks, I'll pass that on to the service tech. Although they may have already checked this, it's still worth mentioning since their specialty is German engineering. Anything else you can come up with, I'd appreciate it. I'm this close to having them replace all sensors, ignition system, etc. Like I said, the car looks great, handles great and I believe I got a good deal. Hopefully, I'm not wrong...

How old is ur gas?

Has ur rex been sitting for awhile? Cuz they hate it and sometimes have problems with their injectors if they sit. This might be what the technicians were talking about," pulsating"?

:frown:

The tech guys have had the car since mid-July, so yeah, the gas is old and it has been sitting 95% of the time. Good point. I'll let you know what I find.

THANKS!

Thanks everyone for your input. The service tech is going to check if the injectors are bad since they are staying open. Don't know why they didn't figure that out in the 4 months they've had the car. Oh well, can't complain since Mazda's too lazy to go the extra mile. I'll keep ya posted!

I had a problem with my 2ndary injectors that drove me crazy to diagonose.

I kept reading the 3800 RPM FAQ's which is what it seemed like, but worse.

The Car would stumble real bad when the 2ndary's where suppose to kick in. After checking the TPS and replacing plugs, etc. I finally replaced the injectors and BINGO.

Might be worth checking... or find a buddy and swap injectors.

Something else the service tech is going to replace: injection temperature sensor (didn't know there was one). They say the car runs good until it heats up then it starts flooding. Will know something today if that's the problem...

The "injection temperature sensor" didn't work!!! WTF! These guys have yet to pull the injectors to look at them; they said they checked the wiring; they said the fuel pressure is good... Does anyone know of a rotary garage around Nashville, TN that I can take my car to (other than Mazda)?

HELP!!!
