How do they occur and does your car have to be turbos.....common people fill me in here

thanx in advance

Super_Dude 11-02-2003 12:22 AM

All you need is a open exhaust (No cats or mufflers) Just straight through and a rotary will shoot flames. It doesnt have to be turbo infact NA's do it easier that turbos (the turbine is a restircion)

you mean somehting like this right? keep in mind that my camera takes about 5 seconds til it shoots, and i saw it, and took a picture

downpipe, midpipe, catback a lot of boost, stock ecu, and a heavy foot

ask teknics, thats his car

TII777 11-02-2003 12:57 AM

actually turbo engine cars are more common to shoot flames, but the only 7's that i see shoot flames are labeled as "hott boyz"/ rice boyz

teknics 11-02-2003 01:18 AM

ok thats my car fikse posted.

I have a complete straight exhaust, running high boost, and the car is running really rich (no i have no idea why, it's the stock ecu and stock injectors, i think my o2 sensor is fubar and im running in open loop mode which would cause richness...but no check engine light pops on so who knows.

N/A's shoot flames as well, all thats really neded is a straight exhaust and rich mixture.

Oh and another way is to take the dashpot off of the throttle body assembly, it slows down the speed at which your tb closes, when removed then whenever you take foot off the gas after having the throttle pretty open (which is when flames shoot) the butterflies inside will snap shut without resistance which makes for good fireworks...my car has no dashpot and the flames have shot a lot more without it on there, plus no one has mentioned why no dashpot would be bad so it works for me https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/smile.png.

edit: oh and a lot of times you arent going to hear anything, unless it's a quick high rev then let off gas and let it compression brake, thats when i hear pops and shoot flames. But when I'm normally driving it just shoots flames constantly when i accelerate even a bit then get off the gas, but i hear no sound.

na's pop and spit fire, like chainsawonsteriods's (leo) car. He set his TPS for overrun or decel fuel and i did the same and we shoot good, blue fire

TYSON 11-02-2003 03:38 PM

holy **** i wanna shoot flames like that..... i think its time for me to get the coil and spark plug fast and the furious style... eheh

how do you install that coil spark plug thing exactly

FikseRxSeven 11-02-2003 03:51 PM

mount the sparkplug on the exhaust.... and if you're running rich(like i am) it will be a flame thrower.

im not sure if that car is doin that, but i love the blue flame

is this bad for the car...also could you be a bit more specific about hopw this works

TYSON 11-02-2003 03:56 PM

It's not. That's a nearly stock car that needs a tune up.

BrandonDrecksage 11-02-2003 05:42 PM

what happens is unburnt fuel gets burnt in the exhaust and shoots the flames with the spark plug...who knows could be better for ur emmisions since ur burning the non burnt fuel...lol....and damn that red car in the begininng...i wonder what a cop would do if he saw that...lol

FikseRxSeven 11-02-2003 05:45 PM

yeah it would be good for emmisions, its likehaving a catalytic converter!!

silent_steve 11-02-2003 05:54 PM

can anyone give me a step by step install guide to do this?

He just said the car didnt have this sparkplug stuff.

lol...like?...as in u don't...lol...what u do is...drill a hole in ur exhaust....thread it...put a spark plug in...hook it up to a switch...put the switch to some type of battery...so u can turn it on and off....then make ur car run rich some how...most 7s do anyway...atleast my fc does....so go driving...and hit the switch...should work if everything is connected..they sell kits somewhere to do it with old cars, but it would be the same as doin it to ur car

BrandonDrecksage 11-02-2003 09:24 PM

i still need to go for a ride in ur FD...i haven't been in a decent car in a while...my friend with his GSM turned the boost down from 19 psi to 10 psi...so it doesn't move anymore

I have seen that the Turbos are easier to shoot flames with. Since the more boost you run, the more fuel you need. Rotarymans car (when it was an NA) shot little flames when he had a straight exhaust. Not as big as my car goes though, well, used to.

Dramon_Killer 11-04-2003 12:55 AM

How do cops react?

spiney360 11-04-2003 01:38 AM

haha i hooked a spark plug on my exhoast in my black fb and it only shot flames when i let off the gas but that was stock with a streit exhuast, now with the 48mm dlha dumpin way to much gas it should throw a hefty flame when i get the exhuast redon on my gold fb without the plug https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...#>/biggrin.png

Don't know yet. I was pulled over once in my MR2 for shooting flames. I just told the cop that my car was running like crap and that I was on my way to a shop to get ti fixed (at 11 pm...lol), he believed me and let me go. Fun times.

I know my car did shoot flames all the time. I had somebody follow me for about 2 miles (work to gas station) and the counted how many times they saw flames. The total was 14. Everytime I hit the gas pretty much. Hopefully it won't do it as much when I get the car back on the road.

Ranzo 11-04-2003 05:30 PM

The reason most RX-7s shoot flames, especially the older models is due to the natural overlap in port timing requires a rich mixture for the car to run smooth. The other thing is that ignition timing is not advanced enough in the mid ranges, This coupled with the old 6 bit computer =(Slow Reacting) causes the exhaust gases to still burn in the muffler. After driving for a while the exhauset temperature heats the entire exhaust system causing flames to shoot out.

1point3 11-08-2003 04:32 PM

My N/A has shot some 5-footers before

every shift at 7500 would shoot 1-3 footers

I raced one of those sentra spec v's i was pulling the whone time and shooting flames every shift... his face was like https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...DIR#>/ohmy.png

btw... this was on stock ports and stock ecu

j200pruf 11-09-2003 04:00 PM

Do you guys think that there would be a problem with burning ppl's cars with side exit exhausts?

MazdaMike 11-09-2003 04:24 PM

not for u, the guy ur racing... probably

donhayes 11-10-2003 04:08 PM

With haveing the straight piping system in, does your gas milleage go down? I want to get straight pipes from the manifold back but i don't want to do it if i'm going to get shity gas milliage. I pay enough for gas as it is.

teknics 11-10-2003 04:41 PM

well i have squeezed 14mpg out of my car.... ONCE. but i think my level sender is fudged or something caus ei can drive on E and my gas light never comes on.

kevin

teknics 11-10-2003 04:45 PM

my car does however run insanely rich for some reason, im guessing tps or something.... ask anyone who's ever driven behind my car.

kevin.

donhayes 11-13-2003 09:52 AM

So if i get the straight pipe that goes through the cat, will my car shoot flames everytime i take off, even if im not punching the throtle?

Baldy 11-13-2003 10:03 AM

I think for most examples, flames come when you let off the throttle. As you hit higher rpm's, the car is dumping more fuel into the engine. When you let off abrubtly, the fuel builds up, and ignites on its way out.

It makes sense to me, but I could be wrong.

Rx-7Ninja 03-09-2004 03:07 AM

Yea My 86 Rx7 almost burnt my friend dave who was being the "flag girl" i was going up against an 87 rx7 and flames shot out my exhaust. and uh... i have no turbo's o rupgrades under the hood. I am thinking that the car needs a tune-up. What do u think it is.and what exactly under the hood should i start working on buyin and installing first then second then third?

bart3lz 03-09-2004 02:35 PM

damn....ok if ur just driving down the street at like 3k rpm ur not gonna be shooting flames like the fast and the furious. if u bring it up to about 6k or 7k and let off the gas suddenly it might backfire and let off some flames. if i didnt have my cat on id be shooting flames. when i really punch it and shift at like 75k it will give a couple nice back fires but my cat is probly preventing the flame. by the way i know it's off topic but i love my CS catback after learning how to drive to keep it quiet it isnt really to loud. when i let off before a turn theres a nice gurgling sound like at the track.sweetness

Dorifc3s 03-10-2004 08:17 AM

crap. im gonna be putting on my straight piping, single setup soon and i like the flames thing its just i dont want it unintentionaly. poeple will probably its a flamethrower kit or some ****.
