Took my car to a shop, had them drive it. They heard the noise, so they put it on a lift and drove it. They couldn't hear the noise, so it only makes noise with load on it. The guy says it might be in the bearings in the hub or the diff. I know it's not the diff, because I just did a 5-lug swap, and the diff was fine before that. So I told him to go ahead and replace the bearings in the hubs, considering they're old, and don't know about the mileage on the hubs. I'm confident that those are making the noise. He said it only takes about an hour on each side, and quoted me $220. Called me back, said it would be $286, because those bearings cost more than he thought. Does all this sound legit? I'm paranoid of people ripping me off, even though these guys are supposedly really good.

on a side note, he said he couldn't pinpoint the sound while driving because my exhaust was too loud. aw, shucks. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...#>/biggrin.png

buy the new wheel bearings and replace them yourself. it's very easy.

is this the front or rear? i think 286 is a little high... i would be shooting around 200 to 250 for the fronts.

Anyhow... rears are different story, u need to press them out.

I have yet to do my because of this reason

you did HALF THE WORK YOURSELF

just have them pressed in

they are the rears, I think the fronts are fine, as far as I can tell.

If they aren't pressed in RIGHT they will fail again in a short time.
