Looking in my manual I came across an illustration showing a fifth gear/reverse switch. The book doesn't say anything about it other than showing it in the picture.

My question is what does this do and can it be the reason my I grind going to fifth?

I don't know anything about a fifth gear switch , but if there is one it would have nothing to do with grinding fifth gear.

Grinding has to do with the internals of the transmission

turbo trans? those always break 5th, that gear just has a small synchro

lol i know someone who tried and failed at replacing synchros on a toyota truck and failed by a putty knife

I think the 5th gear switch sends a signal to the ECU for closed loop ?

The reverse activates the reverse lights.
