I have seen countless pics where guys/gals use the FD Intake manifolds with their FC's. My question is how does it benefit the engine? Is there some increased air flow due to the more straight through uim design? Is it just because it looks cool? Is the throttle body any better? different? Also, what would i need/have to do to set one up on my S5 T2 engine. It looks pretty much straight forward, but it is a rotary component we're talking about here. Info is great https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/smile.gif

you have to port match the UIM from the FD to fit the TII lower. drill out the bolt holes a little to make them line up. the oil filler neck will be in the way. so that has to be modified. the dual 3 wire TPS (6 wires) on your S5 has to be wired to fit the single four wire TPS on the FD throttle body. and the throttle cable has to be moved, depending on how you want it done.
sounds like a lot...but its really easy. i messed up a little doing the TPS, but now all the info is stickied on this forum i think in the ECU section. i have been told you get a 50% better flow. one guy said he gained 30 to the wheels after doing this...but i dont know if there true. oh yeah, you might want to use block off plates to remove the crap on the FD manifold, and you have to grind down a bit of the manifold to fit the stock secondary fuel rail. |
Ah, that just seems like you would really want/need to perform this "operation." I spoke with Brian of BNRturbos who told me its only really good for cars making 500whp. Seeing as how I am going to be happy with about 350-360 with his Stage 3 im not going to worry about it unless I just come across a deal that cant be refused. I notice them being sold for a good bit that I just dont have to spare right now, but maybe sometime in the future.
Oh well, thanks for the info man -B. |
the main reason i did it was for the better throttle responce. its not all in the high HP numbers. getting that power to the ground quicker and smoother is where its at.

I saw an article where they claimed they there was a like 25(?) foot pound gain in torque in the midrange. Thats a huge difference if its true. I might have a couple made and I'll find out...

cool, thats an impressive number for such a mod. I already have the T2 TB mod done which well, I dont notice any difference seeing as how I didnt run the engine before I did the mod. Works just fine though.

I had thought or read somewhere that the throttle has bigger secondaries, 60mm vs 50mm but don't quote me.
If I could fit a FMIC I'd go for it. |
oh im already running a front mount. ebay kit IC piping, actually installed very nicely with a GReddy core. ill try and post some pics sometime for you guys.

The TB is bigger. There is some benefit in that.
Everybody claims big HP/tq but i dont believe it. |
here is my setup, port matched S5 lower and S6 intake manifolds, ported fd throtle body and tps(running lt8s)of course greddy elbow,s5 t2 motor bridgeported with T66 1.15 AR fully divided manifold, not much work its needed in order to make the manifolds work, also the filler kneck assembly was replaced with the complete FD version.

heres a shot of mine...car runs great with it. but its not tuned fully yet, so i dont know how much better.
