A good friend of mine just acquired an n/a and we are going to try it on his car.It will defineatly be a while though, I work 70 hour weeks as is..

CletusFD3S 05-07-2005 02:12 AM

.... im thinking about that fd manifold

teknics 05-07-2005 01:25 PM

shouldnt you maybe put some sort of bracing towards where it mounts to the engine? I mean the FD manifold is fine, its tight and compact, the weight wont cause much of a leverage effect at the flange.

But what you did is like putting wheel spacers on a car, the more spacers the more adverse effect on wheel bearings. except here putting it so far away to clear the LIM means the weight gets more leverage over the point where its welded to the flange make that area likely to fatigue and crack from a bouncing turbo like a t78 etc.

thats why normally people move the turbo forward instead of straight out to the side, easier to brace it, and less leverage effect at the flange.

BTW this is my view on it, it sjust SS mani's are already known to crack, even highend ones from greddy and hks, so id be scared to buy this with such a glaring weak point for the kind of money.

You and your uncle seem to know what youre doing so maybe the thickness of the tubing means you dont need bracing or to worry about the adverse effects of leverage, who am i to say.
