I'm wondering how much horsepower could I get out of an '89 FC n/a? With 146HP stock, how much could I gain by intake/exhaust mods before it would be more cost effective to upgrade to a larger engine? I have actually seen some 2L 13B engines, which would hopefully be the same size as a 1.3L. Here is the link I'm looking at:

http://www.wgtautodevelopments.co.uk/engine.htm

The 20B upgrade seems out of my range, so thats not really an option at this point, but how much can the stock 13B with a small, quick spooling turbo put out, given about 10PSI of boost?

The 2nd gen RX7-s look great (and the price is right) but before I get one I'd like to see what all I could do to it, and how much it would cost.

An S5 '89 Rx7 NA has 160HP and about 128/130WHP stock. Look at kahren's post w/ dyno pics for more info on what it will take to get what power...he ended up w/ 165rwhp roughly w/ a small streetport, full exhaust, and an safc which is very impressive.

what can you expect out of a large street port and a haltec or s-afc....which is what i want to do

Rotaryman88 03-02-2003 02:09 PM

I think with a larger streetport then kahren did...you get another 10/15% so about 180rwhp w/ just the safc. Bridgeport you would go over 200 to the ground...but as kahren said in his post, that when you do larger streeported & bridge...etc..your power is more topend then all around.

Awesome! Thx for the info. And btw, I have been browsing this site:

And it seems that the largest turbo upgrade plus a street ported engine will cost under 4k! What is everyones' opinions on these upgrades? Is this a good place to buy from?

If want you want is power, you going to have to go with a turbo model. 89-91 T2 have 200hp stock, with just full exhaust they gain 65hp.You can get almost 300hp with the stock motor and turbo, w/ a standalone, FMIC, fuel mods, and all the bolt ons--pulleys/no ac or pc/ full exhaust/intake. There are endless mods with a turbo motor.

Yea, I think I am gonna go for a turbo, and how about these upgrades:

How much horsepower am I looking to gain with a stage 4 upgrade? I won't lose TOO much low end, will I?

1Revvin7 03-02-2003 06:01 PM

Thats what I have, bascially, a 60-1 hifi hybrid. But keep in mind you need a lot more than just a big turbo, you will also need fuel mods, and you getting on the edge of a standalone with that. Not too mention upgraded clutch, some big sticky tires, a big radiator, and other goodies. Umm with a stock motor, ecu, fmic cymf3cs made 269 rwhp @ 9psi i believe it was..

cabe 03-02-2003 07:29 PM

Here is what I am lookin at so far:

BNR Stage IV Turbo Upgrade - 725

BNR Stage II Clutch Upgrade - 300

[4] Bosch 1650cc fuel injectors - 440

Walbro Intank Fuel pump - 110

Street Port - ?

Full Exhaust - ?

FMIC - ?

Boost Controller - (Do you suggest this? Would I be able to gain a significant amount of boost? I guess I'd be able to run it safer if anything)

I don't know if all that is the greatest to get, but just to give myself an idea of the price.

Also, a standalone sounds like a good investment -- gain some performance while keeping the engine from blowing up! How much would a decent standalone unit cost?

sidewinderx7 03-02-2003 07:55 PM

street port is gonna run you quite a bit since you have to rebuild the engine to do it + the cost of the porting. Somewhere around 2k, racingbeat sells a turbo back exhaust for $750 i believe, and it is one of the best if not the best. FMIC can be picked up for about 1k, nice boost controller is gonna run you around 400. And you can order a microtech for just around 500 ... which in my opinion is a good alternative to a haltech and alot cheaper. But like it was said earlier, if you are looking to actually turbo charge it, i would strongly recommend you buy a TII. If not, its quite the job to convert... trust me, and im sure everyone else here will agree with me. However, atkins rotary in WA sells super charger kits for NA rx7's. They have some big ones that can put out alot of power. That might be something you might want to look into.
