Well I've got my rebuilt engine in my car, and among other problems, The oil pressure gauge is reading just under 110psi pretty much all the time. Is this a problem with the gauge or actually a problem with the oil pump or something else? I can't imagine actually having oil pressure that high, especially all the time. It's pretty much the same from the time i start the car to the time I shut it off.

Please note that the car is also still runnign really rough. It won't idle on it's own until it warms up for a few minutes. I have to feather the gas pedal. After that I can start it and it idles fine though. I'm hoping that some of these problems will fix themselves once i get some miles on the car. And hopefully we'll be able to tune it better after that as well.

Well best way to determine that would be get a mechanical gauge and test it. The stock sender is know to go out..

Mine does the same thing, I think that if it never moves its definitely broken. But who knows I've been wrong before. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...R#>/unsure.png

it's probably inaccurate, but that doesnt mean your oil pressure is good. You need to confirm it with either another electric gauge & sender or get a mechanical one installed like 1revvin7 suggested.

Mine does the same.. BUT--- only because when my engine was built i had the oil pellet mod completed. At cruising speed (3k rpms) i get just under 110, at idle i get a nice reading just above 60. I'm pretty satisfied with these numbers.

Note: Readings on stock guage.

"Always trust your guages!" CHEERS!

Alright, well I used Atkins Rotary's thermal pellet replacement when we rebuilt the engine as well. Anywho, I'll check it out with a mechanical guage to be sure.

I have the thermal pellet mod also and the guage never reads higher than about 70-75. I have an Auto Meter electrical and its reading from the oil pedestal.

If you gauge is pegged out then that is a good sign that the sending unit wire is grounding out somewhere. Check your wire.

The stock gauge sucks. If you really had that much pressure you should be smoking. Also, the stock oil pressure relief is really hearty. Not likely to fail.
