im pretty much a newb to rotaries but my friend owns a 1st gen and he says you cant put an exhaust on a tII. wtf?! he says you have to do you research so your exhaust wont blow your motor? i have never heard of an exhaust blowing an engine period. he put exhaust on his 1st gen and its 2.5 fully open with no cat to a straight muffler and he says his car wont pull on top. he claims its from lack of high rpm fueling. i was under the impresion that at least with a piston engine, the more open the exhaust, the more top-end/higher rpm power. is it like that with rotaries? i am just trying to get some of this stuff straight. rotaries have high EGT's so wouldnt you want an open exhaust to exit that heat?

The theory of bigger exhaust helping up top is still true for NA's and turbo's. It should produce power throughout for a T2. Maybe what your friend is talking about is that you should get an FCD, boost guage and some other reliablity stuff before you slap a big exhaust on. Putting a bigger more open exhaust on any turbo motor usually increases the boost level... so more fuel is needed to prevent detonation.

Well, on TURBO rotaries, opening the exhaust results in more boost(higher PSI) and it is a good idea to get a boost gauge, fuel controller, etc to accomodate the higher levels of fuel needed to match the extra PSI the exhaust will gain. More boost needs more fuel. Also, when opening the exhaust, the factory ECU will cut fuel if the PSI rises to much..thats why you'd need a FCD(fuel cut defender)...this is all really quick gibberish...but basically, exhaust wont pop ur motor, its not tuning the car properly w/ exhaust that will....
