Hey guys, its been a while since I've been on any of the RX7 forums. I've been working on a '86 track car for the past 8 months and then recently had to switch jobs (stupid economy).

Anyway, I'm having to move also to Nashville...so, now I've got emissions testing. Woo. The car doesn't have any exhaust at all right now.

So, what I'd like to get is a header (Racing Beat or other, doesn't matter to me), a 2.5" cat and some sort of single exhaust. The issue is that a few of the tracks we go to have sound limits...102db is the max. It also needs to pass emissions, so it does need to be somewhat quiet.

Any thoughts?

what i have done on all of ower Eprod rx7s and ITS rx7s is to use a magnaflow muffler and put a 90 degree elbo aimed to drivers right. all tracks we go to from black hawk farms to road america to autobahn to VIR to gingerman to Road Atlanta ect all have there sound test equipment to drivers left. by putting the tail pipe to drivers right it tricks the sound test equipment to think the car is alot quieter then it rightfully is. all the race cars use 3 inch exhaust. now my street turbo car runs a full 3.5 inch exhaust from the turbo back with a borla xr-1 mid muffler to a magnaflow back muffler with a 90 bend to the ground as a tail pipe. the cops leave me alone. now for a street car thats na a cat will quiet it down alot.

410 cfm is like 300hp@8000rpms so it'll work with a stock port.

never use a baffled muffler on a rotary, and always use a stainless packed muffler. the glass packed ones burn out too quickly. the baffled mufflers magnafy the sound level for some reason.

that one does work, ive seen plenty of cars with it over the years. they have a straight thru one too

we used a baffled muffler on our race car for a while, it made the car quiet, although it wasnt built strong enough hold its own weight.

flowmasters are a no no, unless you want people to hear you a few MILES away

i had a 2.5 inch exhaust with a resonator and a decent muffler. and then i switched to a 3 inch all the way with no resonator and this muffler: http://www.jegs.com/p/Hushpower/975690/10002/-1

car was quieter, and had a much deeper meaner tone. plus plenty more flow. dosnt get much better than that. i'll be using this muffler on every car i get from now on...

I have baffled mufflers on mine, been on there for awhile, not a problem, by no means are they flow masters though.

Here is a vid of it going down the track, this is the quietest the car has ever been, but this is a dual setup.

Nice, thats not bad at all. That was just the muffler, nothing else? That would be plenty quiet with a cat

fc3s4utnv 03-24-2009 11:02 PM

no that is 5 mufflers in total....
