I was looking to get all new exhaust. I was looking at the Rx7.com RP exhaust, with the Bonez Main Cat Replacement Pipe, and Racing Beat headers. I know that the Bonez Pipe and the RP exhaust will bolt together with no problems, but I didn't see anything on the racing beat site to say the headers were a direct replacement for the stock manifold. Anyways, I was just wondering if anyone knew whether it would all bolt together just fine, or if I'd need to do any welding work.

vosko 01-03-2003 11:36 AM

click on mazdatrix. they have everything to make a complete kickass system!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

1Revvin7 01-03-2003 11:38 AM

RacingBeat headers, whichever ones you get, are a direct replacement for the exhaust manifold, but not in size, the headers are longer than the stock exhaust manifold.

Rob x-7 01-03-2003 01:56 PM

not sure if the header and converter will bolt right up to each other, you may have to get a pipe made or some welding.

vosko 01-03-2003 02:00 PM

i used pacesetter headers a bonez cat and a stock exhaust. it was a bit faster but it will be very loud and still not that fast LOL

Rob x-7 01-03-2003 02:02 PM

definitly NOT worth the degree of loudness it will be, nor the trouble.

Get the bonez pipe, keep your exaust manifold ( not to mention youll be lucky not to break at least one bolt trying to get the old one off ) and do a cat back exaust.

nymrod 01-03-2003 06:11 PM

The bonez unit bolts from the exhaust manifold back to the y-pipe.. the header would be too long and you would have to cut the bonez and reweld new flanges on.. keep your stock manifold and get a racing beat cat-bat..

I have a question...why does it seem that everyone is knocking a header set-up? Are the power gains not that great? What about with a mild streetported NA....with headers. Im just wondering why you guys are talking about NOT getting them. Yea, so what about the breaking a bolt, **** happens, thats why they make an ez-out and visgrips. Plus gives you a good reason to get new ones.

pengaru 01-03-2003 11:33 PM

get the header, the stock manifold sucks.

the RB header is lighter than the manifold + precats it replaces also... in addition to the power gains.

the header and precat elimination is where most hte power gains come from in upgrading the exhaust, cat-back won't have much effect on performance at all with the stock manifold and old (likely clogged cats, even if they arent clogged, cats from the 80's don't flow well).

best thing if you need to pass emissions is get the RB header, and get the high flow cat from mazdatrix that bolts right up to the RB header and the stock Y pipe. You will want to do cat-back at this point to make it sound good.

Rob x-7 01-04-2003 04:23 PM

I love headers, some of us just advise against the whole thing because the power gains dont seem worth it to some of us for the annoying sound of a N/A rotory engine, dont even bother with a stereo at that point, or carrying on conversations at normal levels. I can gurantee after a few months when the novelty of the header wears off the noise will drive you crazy, not to mention the nice addition of rattles youll get from the inside of the car.

nymrod 01-04-2003 11:01 PM

I put a bonez superflo on my NA.. now i'm just gonna take that off and go with headers instead.. I already have the noise level.. might as well get some extra power out of it -=)

Yeah, I think I'm gonna get the headers and the RP cat-back, and just straight pipe it between them. There are not inspections here in Oklahoma anymore anyways. Thanks for all the help.

if you get the RB headers and plan on a straight pipe replacing the main cat, just get the RB presilencer, that combination works well and it improves the tone a bit. That along with the RP cat-back would be great.

so would headers with a high flow cat or maybe even straight pipes to the stock mufflers basically give u the same power with a little nicer tune? or would the mufflers kill the whole setup?

my stock mufflers sounded like **** with the header + presilencer setup. And after a bunch of driving w/afterburn they degraded quickly. The stock mufflers arent going to tolerate the torture recieved with no cats before them.

My buddy had that done, and yes it did sound bad. My car with no muffs/no cats sound like my car with headers and mufflers. I think my car sounded the best when it had no cats and mufflers, headers make the car way too loud. Be way better off spending the $$$ on some nitrous, headers/silencer would be the same price.

I really like the way my car sounds with the RB headers, presilencer, Y pipe, and mufflers. Before putting on the RB Y and mufflers it was very annoying, but those RB mufflers made a world of difference. I mean to the point that I wanted to beat off in the car first time I started it after installation. :yum:

1Revvin7 01-05-2003 01:44 AM

I love the way it sounds at idle though, like a wild cam v8. My mufflers are pretty straight through, they don't really do any mufflings. I want Rb muffs though, they sound so nice!

Apex13B 01-05-2003 06:30 PM

i am totally sold on an RB cat back....i just need to know how much beating/grinding do i have to do to the crossmember to install a header into my vert...i really do not want to compromise chassis dynamics or some **** like that...in ny a cat is required

I didn't have to do any mods to my vert when I put on the true dual exhaust.

Apex13B 01-05-2003 06:43 PM

so that cross member will not get in the way of the RB header?....i am so ****** paranoid about buying that header and it not fitting and being forced to buy a coupe to use it in https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...#>/biggrin.png

BigTurbo74 01-05-2003 11:23 PM

so just get a turbo... https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...#>/biggrin.png

if you find you can't install the header without doing some damage you are not willing to do... you can always sell it, when I bought my RB header I had to wait a month or something because they were on back order, I would have paid extra to have it immediately in brand new condition from some 3rd party if it were possible.... so you could likely sell it without a loss on some forum or ebay.

vosko 01-06-2003 08:39 AM

i ran my TII with stock exhaust the entire time except two days.... ran fine and was QUIET!..... it was great such a sleeper no noise just go https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...DIR#>/wink.png

BigTurbo74 01-07-2003 10:55 AM

ohh that's why it was so slow... https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...DIR#>/wink.png

Baldy 01-07-2003 01:21 PM

ok, if everything goes right, I'm about to get a year-old rb header and presilencer...so it's highly recommended to get the rb cat back after that? right now, it's all stock (and if it's used, it should be ok, right?)

and does the header make it extraordinarily loud, or just annoying? we don't do checks in FL, but I've heard of some people getting pulled over for noise...of course, I've heard many a redneck car and truck roar down the street, and I wonder if they really do enforce......

rotary>piston 01-09-2003 06:12 PM

I used to have the header/presilencer with the stock mufflers, and it sounded pretty bad, like a 2-stoke dirt-bike. The rp cat-back solved that pretty quick though.
