Can i take the intake and throttle body from an 89-92 or better yet FD and put it on my 88' engine?

If you want to do the lower intake it will be tricky. If you just use the upper and TB from an 89-91 or 93-95 then you can make an adapter plate or port match your lower to match the new upper. I have an FD upper intake and TB I need to put on my 89-91 motor, but I haven't gotten around to it yet.

My 89-91 lower is a TII lower manifold. I thought you were talking about a TII manifold. You can make the 89-91 or 93-95 stuff fit, but you may have some issues with all of the factory sensors bolting on.

What about the throttle cable and the oil lever mechanizism thingy( the lever that goes up from the oil pump thing, u know the one with the four hoses, i can;t remember its name)? will they fit on?

For the 89-91 intake it will all fit pretty easily. For the 93-95 manifold you'll have to work a little to make things fit, but it can be done.

soul assassin is using a FD intake manifold on his FC he needed special adapter though pm him about it https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/smile.png

if you have the mechanical omp you will have to swap to the electrical one, also you need a modified lower intake mani or adapter plate, plus the FD throttle cable, tps sensor, and elbow, i am not sure if the stock ecu will recongnize the FD tps though, and i ported and polished the inside of my t.b and knifed the edges on the manifold it self took those damn butterfly things out and bored those holes out too

Jeez

soul assassin 11-30-2001 03:02 PM

it is not an easy task, but my tuner tells me it was good for about 30 hp

So, u had someone do it? If so how much did it run you, the pieces and labor. Also where could i get it custom fitted?

30 HP? Then I better get to work on mine. My FD upper intake has been sitting with all of my junk for 3 months. I better get it on my car before vosko's is finished. :sigh:

soul assassin 11-30-2001 07:06 PM

no i did it all but he retuned ito n the dyno after i was done, 13 b ace the power also comes from boring out the stock upper manifold where the tb is, and don't forget to polish the inside of the t.b. and knife the edges.

ILUVMY88CABRIO 11-30-2001 08:39 PM

I have the stock TB on my 88 would it be worth the time & effort to bore it out? Oh yeah, I work in a machine shop, so I'd be doing it myself. Do you think there would be much of a hp increase?

Thanks soul assassin. I'm going to try to find an extra 89-91 lower intake manifold before I do it so that I don't have any downtime with my car. A local shop said they would do the port matching, but I don't want to leave my car--bad experiences.:sigh:

my old stock 91 intake was ported and polished also i don't know if it made a difference or not but you would think it helped something! lol

ILUVMY88CABRIO 12-01-2001 01:20 AM

You have any idea how much bigger I should bore them out? Maybe like 10% - 20%? I'll have to got pick up a used TB and take a look at it. Maybe I'll give the people at Atkins a call and ask them how much bigger to go.

Maybe if it isn't a big pain in the ass I'll offer this service to other people. Make a little $ on the side :tounge:

Every little bit helps. Next time you race drive without shoes. That should save a pound. :sigh:

Race in the nude, I may save a few pounds!!

Well if i ever do get around to this, which i eventually will, how would i do a setup from the FD TB to my Airfilter? since my car is not turbo - TB from the FD is facing the opposite way of my TB.

Does anyone know a place where they would port and polish my intake?

Does anyone know a place where they would port and polish my intake?
If anyone needs to modify their TB themselves......
