I swear to got I wanna shoot the **********er that designed that setup, the two phillips screws holding the rotor on is a god damn joke.... so after a days worth of fun, i need those two screws and a new hub. Why the hell aren't they just held on with the lug nuts like every other rotor known too man.

Unless I just cut one fo the screws out of the system I am fucked because the one is snapped off and I cant even drill it out (ez snapped too).

Soo anyone got a 5 lug front hub?

vosko 03-26-2005 07:07 PM

same thing happened to me............wound up replacing everything. hubs bearings rotors pads.......lol

nissan has a threaded hole put in a 10mm bolt crank it down pops the rotor off https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...DIR#>/wink.png

phinsup 03-26-2005 07:09 PM

Yea I am going to be doing the same on the right side, just need to find someone with a used 5 lug hub!

vosko 03-26-2005 07:12 PM

old man banzai?

phinsup 03-26-2005 07:32 PM

I pm'd him, i found on ebay with a pair too, sent him a message.

phinsup 03-26-2005 07:50 PM

The thing that annoys me the most is it makes no sense why they are there in the first place, I can't think of any car where the rotor isn't just held on by the lug nuts....

They are used during assembly at the factory to stabilize the rotors. They are of soft material, but a manual impact phillips (one you strike with a hammer) works well. If you can't get them out, just drill the heads off and remove the rotors. You may be able to get them out with vise grips. As they are not needed leave them out if they are destroyed.

Bitteliten 03-26-2005 08:14 PM

in cars with "loose" rotors its very common to come dirt between the rotor and hub, thus resulting in vibrations...

89 Rag 03-26-2005 08:33 PM

A dead-blow imact driver with a #4 philips head will pop those screws right out, although i'm don't know why the rotors would need to come off to do a brake job.

Awesome, had just got done having that convo with my dad the only reason we could see them there was to hold the rotor on on the assemby line before the caliper was installed.

Appreciate it

Then you've never done a proper brake job unless you have a nice on car rotor turning equip.

I am going to slotted rotors all the way around https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...DIR#>/wink.png

"evertime i do fc brakes"...i was so expecting, "i break the brakes."

I bought new rotors for the car, once it needs service the car, along with pick-up, will be serviced at the brake shop, it's too inexpensive not to have them do it.

Cheers! 03-26-2005 10:18 PM

this is the front we are talking about? I used a dead blow impact with a phillips head as well. I broke it 6 times (sears lifetime warranty) before I got the car done

I left the screws out after

phinsup, thoughs 2 screws are only there to hold the rotors on the car during assembly, yes they can be drilled out very easy as they are made of a very soft steel, i know cause with the amount of brake problems on the mazda 6 i drill and remove them damn same screws as the rx7 some times 10 times a day. i rune without them screws on my fc and have never had any problems.

fc3sboy1 03-27-2005 12:38 AM

just realized i pretty much said the same things everyone else did lol, man i need to get some original material and learn to spell better hahaha.

but if there was any second guessing about them screws im a master mazda tech and even at mazda tech school they say **** them lil screws too!

vosko 03-27-2005 01:02 AM

umm i remembered now i drilled the heads off. jay turbovr6 got one or two off by heating to one million degrees then using a 100 ton press.....then they magically popped off..........Aluminum hubs to Iron Rotors = MELTED TOGETHER after 20 years :(

turbovr6 03-27-2005 01:05 AM

yep, **** fc brakes/ what a ******* bitch. that was the first and last time I touched brake rotors on an fc

Cheers! 03-27-2005 08:56 AM

and coat the aluminum hub and the inside of the brake rotor hat with antiseize

dag 03-27-2005 10:08 AM

Odd, I've never had an issue with rotor removal on any of my FCs.

donhayes 03-27-2005 10:10 AM

My car didn't even come with those screws in the front brakes. I never thought about it too much until i did the rear brakes and saw the screws. But i haven't had any problems with vibrations for three plus years of owning mine. Get rid of them and just do it.

You must live in a cheap area if it is cheaper to have someone else do your brakes. The local brake shop wanted over 1k just to do one brake. I did everything, new front calipers, front and rear pads and rotars for around $1250. I never go to shops when fixing it yourself is cheaper.
