I heard something about Ethanol blending getting pretty involved, but I THINK I read somewhere that Ethanol is a Rotary killer?

Use water and methanol.

BigTurbo74 06-13-2006 05:42 PM

ethanol is already in the gasoline you have been driving your car on for years...

QuackDamnYou 06-13-2006 05:50 PM

yes, I know, but they're increasing the amount put in.

Bottom line: s'this bad?

toplessFC3Sman 06-13-2006 08:22 PM

well, ethanol has a tendancy to eat up seals, rubber hoses, and other things that werent made to withstand large concentrations of it.

I dunno about any of the main seals in the rotary specifically tho

WEll ****.... ive been puttin ethanol blended gasoline for ages...

Its a turbo so i put premium with at least 10% ethanol quoted to be in the gas.... hope this **** aint bad.

QuackDamnYou 06-13-2006 09:11 PM

I wish I could remember where I read that Ethanol is bad for Rotaries. Obviously the information exists somewhere or else I wouldn't have gotten scared when I read it was going to be increased...

just like extended life anti-freeze is bad also https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...R#>/bsflag.gif

10% ethanol is a pretty normal mix, and has been for a long time, it shouldnt give you trouble... i thought you were referring to some of the 85% mixes that have been coming out. Those blends require the special rubber and materials for the fuel system.

Tomoya 06-13-2006 11:25 PM

okay, well then thats good to know.... heh scared me for a moment there.

Keegan 06-14-2006 02:45 AM

Without any serious inquiry into the situation, I would have to agree with topless... There can be anywhere from 5-15% ethanol in any gas you use, anywhere in this country (U.S.), without any company being required to tell you about it. I think 15% might be the line, where it must be mentioned on the pump somewhere.

I was under the impression that this was a pretty smart-ass comment free-zone.

Anyway...

Thanks to those who were actually even remotely serious.

When you are an Mod. I dont think it matters...........

If you want the added margin of saftey, plus the ability to run a bit more timing, and leaner a/f's use water methanol mixed 50/50. I have personaly witnesed this stuff on the dyno, BOTH of my boss's mustangs have them ('03 cobra lots of bolt ons 650 ft lbs, 500hp, 89 LX 5.0 Turbo, built motor mild cam, 400 hp 515 ft lbs). Out of about 20 kits we have installed we only had 1 come back with a problem, and it was a bad pump.

These are the actual kits that we used, you can buy little odds and ends for them to make them "safer".

it is on the owners manual that too much ethanol is bad.

QuackDamnYou 06-14-2006 06:26 PM

Haha, that might've been it..

Jonlax 06-15-2006 10:05 AM

i was reading it after finding it hidden around the jack area. I have found almost all the original paperwork in that area with all service records. I love being the second owner of cars.
