My car has been sitting for 6 years. I replaced the gas tank and the whole sending unit because they were all rusted up, replaced the spark plugs and i tried to do the atf trick and my car will not start. I know that it is getting spark. I don't know what to do. Please help!

Try a compression check. Also, check and make sure you are getting fuel since the filter could be clogged or the injectors.

Did you let the ATF sit in there for a while? After sitting that long, it could very well have a seal or two stuck pretty good.

Are you sure you're getting fuel to the rail? Pull the feed hose & jumper the pump. No smoking. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/smile.png

They like to flood, so always be conscious of that. Pull a plug and see if it's wet with fuel.

At some point you need to verify that you've got compression enough to get the fire started.

Good luck. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/smile.png

The atf has been sitting in there for about a week now. When i had the spark plugs out i heard 3 whooshes of air per rotor housing when i was turning the engine over so i'm pretty sure it has compression.

Is there a way to prime the fuel system after it has been depresseriesed?

there is no need to prime the fuel system.

the car will not start right away if it is not primed after being depressurized, it takes like 15 cranks to start it. FYI there is a green 2 prong connector on the passenger side firewall near the AFM. Put a jumper cable in there, just make a bridge and turn the car to "ON", you should hear the fuel pump running, do this for like fifteen seconds, then take the bridge out... Done.

Check the simple things, that works for me. Once in my explorer i could get it to move...even at full throttle. 2 words...parking brake! Maybe your battery is low? Sometimes it will turn but not have enough juice to start, thats happened to me before? Who knows just adding 2 cents

one would assume he has cranked it enough to prime the system by now.

When you change the fuel filter or pump you dont have to prime the system.

When you run out of gas you dont have to prime the system.

I changed the fuel filter twice on my car, and ran it out of gas once when I first got it, and neither time I had to do anything except turn the key like always and start the car.

Check and make sure that the AFM under the air cleaner box is plugged in. The car will crank but not start if it is not plugged in. Also make sure the hose on the air inlet duct is plugged in. These are things that I have forgotten after pulling the air cleaner assembly off. You could also try compression starting it, see how that works.

Gas in the car?
