ok 1987 N/A S4 cars been sittin for like 2 years bought it for 500 bucks, guy said it was apex seals did compression test and it has compression. ok it ran when i first got it like 6 months ago, hard to start and would barely idle motor would shake a lot and idle ruff, revs slow and breaks up with no load. tried to drive it really really slow. like would not get out of its own way went to start it today (been sitting for 6 more months) it would fire but the shut right off smell nothing but fuel the fuel pump is rigged to a switch when i smelled nothing but gasoline i'd kill the switch and cranked it till it wouldn't fire at all and the turned it back on and it would just fire then shut right off and it still sounds like its missing if u know what i mean.......



is this the apex seals or something else cause i thought that if they go the engine wouldn't really start..... any help is greatly appreciated

Sure sounds blown. What were the comp #s?

The engine will run and not hold idle. It blows blue smoke out the tail. You can drive it just don't let your foot off of the pedel.

Sounds Tosat to me... Consider a rebuild buddy :(

Typical apex seal failure is one seal on the rear rotor. That will kill compression in two of the three combustion chambers on that rotor. If you use a conventional compression gauge, you need to remove the valve core that holds the readings and watch for even bounces of the needle. If the valve is there, you could see a "normal" reading since the one chamber will still have compression.

crap thats what i did wrong i forgot u have to watch for three spikes yup blows the blue smoke too ok i think i'll give atkins rotary a call soon as i get my check and get me a rebuild kit.....
