Yeah I was wondering the same thing too..

I bought some high temp paint at the local autoparts store and it has worked good. I put on about three coats.

Yeah, I'm wishing it was a 13BT though. Your car is going to be nice when its all done.
|
Any local auto parts store
You can also go to a good supply place and buy it in quarts/gallons custom mixed, but spray cans will suffice. |
I just got that stuff from Wal-Mart. I put on about 6 coats and it has been holding up really well. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...#>/biggrin.png

Cool, so I could get some of that nice blue paint from Autozone.. Can the aluminum housing be painted? I know they look better polished but just wondering..

did you guys prime the surface first with primer?
|
No. Ive never even seen high-temp engine primer.
|
I just got done porting my motor and I painted the plates red. I used high temp paint and HIGH TEMP PRIMER. Yessss thats right , they do make it.
I didn't paint my housings though. I just polished them instead https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...#>/biggrin.png |
hmm i tried using the spray paint **** tonight, see how 1 coat turns out tommorrow. Isamu did u use spray paint? it doesn/t work that well, i want something thicker to prevent running. guess i will check some more places for other stuff.
|
i considered painting my irons but it was too cold in the garage to get any masking tape to stick well so I skipped the paint... didnt find it too important.
|
get a space heater like me, it works...
|
eh, I have a kerosene turbine heater... It wasnt cold enough to make it uncomfortable for me so I wasnt using it. They were just still cold as hell from the night temps, and it made me put more thought into why exactly I wanted to paint them anyways.... Looking at my old irons they didnt have any corrosion on them or anything so I didnt see any need to paint them to keep from rusting... I couldnt think of any significant performance difference, I guess if the paint has ceramic in it, there may be a small insulating effect.. at that point it seemed no different than sticking vinyl stickers on my hood... so no paint it is.

1Revvin: it will take more then 1 coat, depending on the color it might take 3-4, maybe more. Take a heat gun or even a good hair dryer if you dont have a heat gun and keep the can warm when you spray it, and of course shake it well before each coat. Heat the can while you spray as well. Hopefully you got one of the paint cans that has the adjustable fan on the tip. Use multiple light coats instead of trying to cover in one coat and be patient giving it time to set up between coats and it should turn out great. |
