Ok, the engine is out of my 88 'vert for a while getting rebuilt, so in the mean time I wanted to clean up the engine bay. What products do you use that wont take the paint off, but will get rid of the grease/grime/other buildup? Any tips on how to do it? Thanks!

some degreaser and alot of scrubbing hott watter and dawn work well

I was kinda looking for a brand of degreaser, I looked at a few but they all had warnings on the back about using on painted surfaces. I just wanted to see which brand worked before inadvertantly removing the paint from my engine bay

use dawn dish soap and hot water im not kidding it works amazingly with no paint removal

+2 on the simple green
+1 on the hot water so thats, what 3? |
if you have a auto magic distributor in your area use thier engine wash, blows simple green away.
wont hurt paint, glass, rubber, etc.. |
I use a degreaser called Purple Power or something. Works great but be sure to wear dishwashing gloves or anything that repels liquids cuz I believe the degreaser is a lye solution. It gives your hands a lovely burn if ya don't (especially if you have cuts on your hands from removing a 20 year beater motor.) The stuff is biodegradeable though.

you could take a bath in engine wash, its non-corrosive.
I would be carefull of something that might burn, if it burns skin im sure its not good for rubber or paint. btw-always wet the paint on the exterior of the hood and fenders before you begin so you dont streak it. |
