I think that the motor that i have is dying fast. The high temp light for radiator keeps going off and on through out driving. Took to a dealer, they said that motor is shot. It has the equivilent to a blown head for a piston motor. Can I rebuild myself cheaper than buying rebuild? Don't mind getting dirty just don't have information at hand to rebuild.

uhm, not speaking from expierence but i heard that it's easier then rebuilding a piston engine, less parts involved... if you have previous expierence then I'd say why not, always good to gain the knowledge about the car.... if not then it's up to you....

Sounds like you are getting blow by, the green seal is gone. As long as you are careful when you buy the parts you should be way ahead of the game if you rebuild it yourself.

the coolant light is low coolant meaning the coolant seals are gone if you overheated the engine you will need new housings as they will warp. there are many factors. your best bet would be try and find a used engine to replace it... they can usually be found pretty cheap on www.thepartstader.com mazda rebuild parts are pretty expensive.

Hi T-rex, I just got done putting in a rebuild and it took me some time (worked only after work hours and spare time) just doing that it wasn't that over welming especially since it was the fist engine replacement I ever did. I was pondering doing the rebuid myself and I'm glad I didn't attempt it. You might want to purchase a video from atkins rotary for 29.00 and it will give you an idea of what your getting into. Gary

If the engine hasn't been over heated then you might be able to rebuild it youself. If the engine has be over heated they you'll have warped housing and other kind of damage.

Usually this type of damage will add up on parts that would equal or exceed the cost of a brand new rebuilted engine that would probably come with a 1 to 2 year warranty.

So make the wise choice, determine if you have really damaged the engine by overheating it.

A used engine can be had for 800 usually.
