I was told to use an electric fan with thermostat to replace the fan on my rx7. Is there any fans that will work and arent too hard to install ? I plan on getting one from the scrap yard or maybe from ebay...any suggestions?

I have heard to the ones from a pontiac feiro work really well

Black magic is a good one...you'll want one that is at least 16". I have debated this, but have heard good and bad things about using electric fans...I haven't decided yet. Let me know if you notice any gains, losses, etc....when you do it.

i would definately go with an electric if only to get more space in your engine bay. go with somthing big though. unorthodox racing had a little thing about a super kewl electric fan from BeCool but emailed them and they said the fan didn't exist.Unorthodox racing project rx-7

right now i'm looking at a FAL (flex-a-light) fan on the summit catalog.

I'm also considering a fiero electric fan...do they come with a thermostat or you have to turn it on yourself (something I would hate to do)

From what i have heard you can add a thermostat so it will turn on and off

You can add that to any fan. Pep Boys sells a kit for about $30. Summit sells gauges that will turn on a fan.

I like the Permacool, pushes nice air. But I don't like that they don't sell a shroud for it. I can make one, but would be alot easier, and look better with one from the company

I heard the fiero fan shroud covers most of the radiator too. I am thinking about this also. Does any year fiero fan work??

I installed a basic 16" electric fan on my 86 base and removed the stock fan shroud. I got it from Advance auto parts for around $60. I didn't notice much difference in acceleration. It definitely felt like the engine revved a lot more freely though and it helped cooling also. For example, with the stock fan, if I was sitting at idle for a while and then I got on it, the engine would tend to get just above the middle on the guage and then come back down. It would stay around 1/3 all the time with the electic fan. Just be careful with the wiring...make sure its top notch. If the fan stops and your sitting at idle, the engine will get hot real quick. I had mine wired to stay on whenever the car was running.
