I have a 87 FC that has a slow coolant leak. I have to keep topping it off once a week or so, it's not a big deal (I think?) but I would like to get it fixed.

I have ordered new silicone hoses, but I did get to look under the car and it appears that the radiator has been damaged. I looked on Mazdatrix and it's like $450+ for a radiator, I can't spend that right now. The ebay ones are like $200 bucks, but I'm wary of ebay stuff.

Has anyone used some of the things off of ebay successfully?

There are a few that are totally generic, another is a brand called Zap Performance, and finally there is Godspeed.

You get what you pay for dont skimp on a rad corksport sells one but remember the fan shroud has to be changed out to a smaller one corksport sells one for them and one for the ones they dont sell

Edit: Link isn't working for some reason... trying to link the koyorad from rx7store... You may be able to find it somewhere cheaper too.

Not a bad price @$320 and a decent radiator.

you can get a summit universal radiator for like $150 you just have to go through the trouble of mounting it and adapting the fan shroud or going efan.

Very important advise from RicerJ the cooling system is the most important part of an rx-7's longevity. 1 over heat can cost you a lot of money more so than investing in a good cooling system.

IMO you can get a stock replacement at advance for $179 that will at least give you peace of mind that the rad is new. if you looking to upgrade save the money and get something good.

even though this one dont look to bad.

ebay rad

Alright, I suppose I figured as much ...but I had to give the cheapo way a shot. Glad I checked though. I'll save up a bit and get a proper radiator.

S5 will not fit s4 without modifacation just an fyi

Jamesyb0y 02-09-2011 11:38 AM

Okay, thanks for the heads up. If that's the route I went, is it a headache to get a radiator made for the S5 to fit into the S4?

i was looking at getting the dual pass from koyo and putting it in my 88, like u said it will be some fabrication on my part.

is it really worth the extra flow and cooling to make a differance? what kind of hp limits will i have with a single flow all alluminum rad?

i know of supra's that are pushing 1000 hp and they use single flow.

the plan with my car is to make it a drift car so im thinking 350-400 whp will be my goal.

RicerJ 12-21-2011 11:31 PM

well dont be expecting those numbers with a N/A thats a LOT of work turbo is the best thing and a guy i know is pushing 400 to the wheels but the t2 stuff isnt good for much past the 350 mark
