Gday guys,

I have just installed a E8 in my Rx7 S5 turbo. I have only one slightly annoying problem…

When I first turn the key to ON/IGN position (car not running), I get some weird things happen to the ECU.

So I hit the IGN to ON, I normally have the laptop with HALWIN open on the gauge page. Now for starters, the tacho sporadically bounces, my shift light will go on and off too.

The air and water temp bar graphs in the gauge page go off the scale then back down to normal readings a few times.

I can hear my fuel pump priming constantly, not switching off after a few seconds like it should. My injectors are firing and coils too some times with just the IGN to ON possy.

I thought I was getting some interference some where, so I triple checked the TRIGGER wiring and ran more GROUNDS but its still dose it. I triple checked all my wiring. I also tried disconnecting my CAS, coils, water and air temp sensor. But the E8 still goes spastic on start up. I even tried disconnecting the big 34 pin plug on the E8, but when I hit that key, the ECU goes all weird again.

Now if I switch the IGN on and off a few times the ECU settles down and everything is fine, sometimes I will get a ‘ECU diagnostics error’ on my laptop, but then I hit IGN on and off again we are all cool.

Now here is the crazy part, all this crazy ECU stuff only happens when the car is cold, once I flick the IGN on and off a few times and get the thing running its all sweet. If I come back to the car in say 30min, hit the IGN and everything connects straight away. It seems this weird prob only happens when the car or ECU is cold!

Any ideas?????

PS; it’s a E8 v1.71,

Regards, Steven.

i wonder if your ignition switch is dirty?

although if the unit is seeing rpm, for any reason, it'll start outputting

hey, im am just checking the ignition switched wire now. im checking voltage and current draw from it. i will also do the same from the +12v supply.

but the IGN +12v switched voltage only has to pull the 3 relays, so i dont think it needs much current to do that.

thanx for the reply! any other ideas?
