When i first got my car (2 yrs) I read on the internet somewhere that the door handles are weak.
So about a weak after getting my car, my drivers handle broke. DAMNIT! So i replaced it with one from a junkyard. Looked in good working order. Lasted 3-4 Month, Broke again. I am very careful with these things. I've also gone thru 2 Passenger side handles. No matter how many times i tell my friends, BE CARFUL.. They still yank up on them.. when their drunk or what ever. My questions are.. 1. Who thinks the Door handles on an FC are WEAK! 2. Any way to reinforce them...? For god sake, i'm tired of buying them. I should stock up maybe huh https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/angry.png 3. Is there any other door handle in the world that breaks as easily as ours? Thanks guys. Markus |
I haven't had any trouble with both FC's that I've had but I also heard that they are pretty flimsy. The handles on older Saabs and VWs suck ass. My cousin has an old golf and the handle on the passenger side isn't even there and the driver's side requires a special technique to open. Oh yeah, mustangs have really shitty door handle. My friend already went through two.

Yeah, my passenger side handle broke on my previous 7 when it was cold. personally, i'd try a new one from mazdatrix.com, see how that works.
oh yeah, below i'm just testing something from rotarynews.com, just some ads of the rx-8 http://images.rotarynews.com/videos/RX-8/z...om_TV_RX8_1.asf http://images.rotarynews.com/videos/RX-8/z...om_TV_RX8_2.asf |
my drivers side handle has been broken since i bought the car, but only one side is broken off so it still works I'm just really gentle when opening the door and it's fine... I have to repair it sometime in the near future.
they do seem to be notorious for breaking. |
I've never had a problem, but it doesn't get real cold around here. It sounds like it's related to the cold. Extremely crappy alloy that gets brittle when cold?
|
I live where it gets pretty cold in the winter, and very hot in the summer
havent had any problems, this is actually the first I am hearing of it, lol |
Yup. Pretty common problem. I've gone through 2 on my AE, then I broke down and bought a new one from Mazdatrix. Used handles suck, they don't last vert long, just buy new ones.

Take it apart and clean and lubricate all the moving parts. The handle on my fd was hard to move and I knew it would break if I kept forcing it.
|
On the FCs the way they made them just sucks. They have a major weak point, both my handles broke in the exact same spot.
|
put me on the list for busted driver side, how hard are they to replace?
|
It can be a little bit of a pain in the ass. It is only held in by 2 nuts, but you have to disconnect the 2 rods (one for door latch, one for lock), and that was a pain the first time. You also have to swap over the wires from the old handle, so make a mental note on how they are run. Now that I've had practice, I can easily do it in under 1/2 hour.

I have gone through 2 sets of door handles for each side of my 2nd gen and just recently my lock froze on the drivers side https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...1047683358.gif

After reading this topic, I will pick up another set of handles and get them painted to match and pack them away.
|
mine broke and i think i have another going to have to come
for \some reason i can feel it going withihn a month or 2 i should buy a NEW one before i get a my car repainted when i get my ody kit i dont waa have a mismatching door handle |
like my boy nick (Apex13B) call it the Hitachi HandShake . i never heard of that but i think its funny. They brake off cause u have to always hold them up when u close em and then u can literally ripped them out.
|
people neeed to get pwer door locks that comes with a normal alarm system now a days
i think that will make a huge difference |
