well im going to be picking up a haltech i think it's an f9? plus a couple 720 secondaries

also a fmic (npr izuzu one)

Im doing this for reliability reasons, but with tuning and what not what kind of nuimbers should i expect from this set up? Also factor in a FCD+ racing beat 3" stainless turbo back exhaust.

And what other things would I need to pick up to complete this small set here(later in the spring im upgrading to a standalone but for right now im needing something so my car doesn't explode before then, and no, im not turning up boost or anything id just like to get "quasi" good gas milage)

1988RedT2 01-11-2005 07:17 AM

Simply adding fuel isn't going to make your car any faster. Of course, the 3" turbo back will free up some horsepower, but nothing else you list is going to help the engine breathe any better. One way or another, you'll need to get more air into the engine before you can use any more fuel.

You could always upgrade the turbo once you add the fuel, though. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...#>/biggrin.png

And I wouldn't look to improve the gas mileage over stock. If you're tuning for performance with a safety margin, its likely you'll be running richer than stock and consequently be looking at still lower mpg numbers.

drunkin_idiot 01-11-2005 08:43 AM

Ya it kinda explains itself, more fuel, less air = less FPG(gas milage)

Veritas 01-11-2005 12:42 PM

i figured adding a front mount would help with more air, but that's wrong thinking??

and im not looking for hp #'s at all, just the "not blowing **** up" margin.

outside of a new intake and my front mount what are some other ways of adding more air then?

Dramon_Killer 01-11-2005 02:59 PM

Its an f5.

A front mount is really just gonna allow your car a cooler intake charge and allow you to run a much bigger turbo compared to the stock top mount would allow.

more air = bigger turbo

and for more air you'll need more fuel.

And how bad is your mileage?

I got 18 around town and 22-23ish on the highway with stock efi and 10 psi.

Veritas 01-11-2005 04:22 PM

meh. kinda pewpy gas but i need my fuel hoses replaced, i need to do a bunch of things actually.

i'm going to need to make sure i get everything together on it right

by the way, what are your guys thoughts on the whole intake thing? is spending 149 dollars on an intake from hks worth it?

rowtareh 01-11-2005 04:56 PM

I have read in many places that the stock box intake is better than a cone filter. Only good thing with those is that it frees up engine bay space. Oh and e-fans run hotter than the normal clutch type fan.

Dramon_Killer 01-11-2005 04:56 PM

Prelude intake pipe at autozone for 40 bucks looks shiney and has the right bend, you just gotta cut it and add a filter.

Or...you could home depot it and make a 3 inch TID for like 10 bucks.

Go search the faq section. I honestly couldn't justify spending so much for an intake when you can build your own for much cheaper, and you said you were considering getting a bigger turbo as well.

Veritas 01-11-2005 07:04 PM

... gimmie specs on it and i'll do that bitch up right now.

But what about the MAF? don't I need something for that? Like what's involved in taking it apart to do that?

And back to the FMIC, this shop is wanting to do my front mount for 450, 450 includes labor, cutting, fitting, and everything else needed for the custom **** for getting it welded up right. Is that a good price or is that bad? Im picking the NPR izusu one up for 280 shipped, would it be easier to do myself or just better to have them do it? I don't have a garage to do the work in so... yeah.

Pull the MAF off the air box, buy an adapter on ebay ( I recently sold mine, an HKS ) and put a cone filter on there. Bang for the buck, there isn't anything you can do to the car to make it faster. The stock airbox is a major flow restrictor. I think my 1/4 time dropped a half second on this mod alone. No BS! And I was already running a K & N panel filter in the box.

Front mount adds safety margin by lowering intake temps. Probably not a factor unless you sit in the staging lanes with the engine running. If you're running stock boost levels, I'm not sure I'd even bother. I'm running 12 psi with pretty much open exhaust and a cone filter right on the turbo (Haltech, no MAF), and I'm still using the stock top-mount. Granted, it's pretty much next on my to-do list, but IMO its an expensive PITA for a couple degrees lower intake temps.

Dramon_Killer 01-12-2005 12:42 PM

I hit about 70 degree intake temps with my front mount with outside air being like 50ish.

What kind of intake temps do you hit?

Veritas 01-12-2005 05:43 PM

yeah for what im wanting to get hp # wise in the future the fmic is still a nesc. so i might as well just get it out of the way now while im going to have a lot of parts out of the car. And how do you guys feel about P/S? I'm thinking of putting mine BACK into the car. I missed not actually having it in my vehicle.

Anyways, It looks like i'll have to do brakes ASAP also, they started freezing up today in the rear so my caliper's probably shot.

Is that a drum type brake or what?

1988RedT2 01-12-2005 07:29 PM

Nope. Rears on a T2 are discs.

Dramon, not sure about my intake temps this time of year. Back a few months ago, they ran about 140 if I remember correctly, but I think that was sitting still. I really haven't spent much time logging stuff since I got the Haltech running pretty good, but the car is slower than it was before because it's getting a lot more fuel. I'm probably just lucky I didn't blow it up with the stock ECU. I need to go out to the garage and fire the beast up. It's been over a month, maybe two. Not much time left over for injection tuning when you're chasing a two-year old boy around.

teknics 01-13-2005 03:07 PM

DAMN youre paying $280 shipped for the NPR intercooler?

a) i hope its the large

b) damn i should sell mine for $280 and go right back to the junkyard and get another one for like $75-100

some people must like getting robbed.

kevin.

drunkin_idiot 01-13-2005 11:29 PM

^ Thats what I was thinking, Ive seen them sold for $80 shipped

Veritas 01-14-2005 10:56 PM

i trust ebay like i trust a hole in the head

but it's the 19x25x2.5 i think i noted those all right, if i had a junk yard here i could pull it from i would but im screwed on that.

If you know someone that's trust worthy from the board selling one cheaper, by all means id buy it from them first.
