Ok I have 2 86 base models with one wheel wonders, and I am going to be going with the Turbo conversion, and I have done searches both here and the evil forum and noone has posted a definitive answer to the difference in the differentials between a Turbo II and a N/A
What I am trying to ask, I have a supposed upgraded T2 Diff from Cusco (locker style) and I am looking to mount it in the 86 carrier. I just want to swap the ring gears if possible, but the FSM does not list any differences for the differential between the two. So all you parts movers, I am looking for a definitive answer if I can do this swapout or not. Trying to save a little money since I already have 2 86 carriers. I thought about the Miata conversion too, but I will be making some serious power (450-500hp range) and I don't think the Miata is up to the task. |
the difference between a NA and a TII differential (regardless if the NA has a limited slip diff or not) is the diameter of the diff itself.
I think TII diffs are 7 inch diameter differential, where as the NA is smaller, 6 inch maybe? i do not know the exact size I forgot, and raelly haven't paid much attension to my differential. All i know is that i want a more linear lockup differential then my viscous in my 89 TII, i want a FD torsen |
the turbo rx7's and v6 2wd, or 4wd mazda's all have an 8" ring gear while the na rx7's and rwd 4 cyl cars all have the 7" ring and pinion.

Thanks J9, Banzai concoured, looks like I am going to have to find a T2 carrier now
